Keep Sowing
Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seed.
Mark 4:3
My Takeaways
Something Old
Something New
It’s really important we don’t overthink our role as “farmers” to the world. The farmer wasn’t responsible for:
- The elements surrounding the sowing. The birds who ate the seed and the weather were both controlled by God.
- The effectiveness of the sowing isn’t up to the farmer. The farmer tossed the seed out when the field was ready. He wasn’t responsible for the condition of the ground. Areas were rocky, and dry, but God knew this.
- The size of the yield. The farmer put out the seed without any idea of its yield. Some yielded more than others. Again, something God already knew.
Something to Do
Prepare the soil, and sow the seed.
The parable of the sower stood out to me in a fresh way today. I have received Christ but I saw how my heart can often still be on rocky and thorny soil. I am not deeply rooted as I would like to be. I don’t want worldly things to distract me or drift away from god’s word because of trouble or persecution. I can get excited about God’s Word and as time goes on I slow loss that passion. I want the desire for His Word to be a constant in my life regardless of what goes on around me.
Matt 12:25-29 stood in a fresh way also! Jesus said that only one who is more powerful than Satan can cast him out. He had that power to cast him out. Jesus’ power lives in so I too have power, through Jesus, to cast Satan out. I don’t have to let him mess with me or those around me. I can cast him out in Jesus’ name and allow Jesus the victory not Satan!
My Takeaways: Jesus Speaks
Something Old: The Parable of the Sower, What it means to me.
1. Scatter the seed persistently, consistently, and faithfully, pray and water the seed. God will prepare the soil. I have to adopt the best methods possible, but never get discouraged if people do not respond.
2. Proclaim the truth of Scripture and then let God’s Word do what God’s Word alone can do.
3. Think carefully about the commitment, don’t go into it flippantly. “Count the Cost.”
4. The seed has been sown my job is to let God plant His words deep in my soul so the fruit that I bear is pleasing.
Something New: Mark 28-29 I am glad that I am a Christian and never have to worry about committing the unpardonable sin. As a Christian I should always have a repenting heart and a deep belief in who Jesus Christ is and what he did for me. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 8:1).
Something to Do: Allow God’s Word in my heart to produce a huge harvest. Don’t become a Pharisee.
