God Knows
When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said
Luke 7:13
My Takeaways
Something Old
God knows our heart. We don’t have to say a word.
- The mother did not ask for healing.
- Jesus spoke only to the dead man.
Only Jesus can give life to what is dead.
God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did. (NKJV) Romans 4:17b
Something New
She lost her only son… something Jesus would know about because He was the only Son of God, and was born to die.
Something to Do
Praise God, He knows my heart, and loves me any way.
Thank you for this word, Wendy. It is just what I needed to hear today.
Today we got a call as soon as we were up that our pastor had had a seizure in the night. Praise the lord he is doing okay and will be having follow up testing today. As I sat down to read today the first few passages were about Jesus’ healing. How timely to read and believe that God still heals and we can put our trust in him to heal and have compassion on his children. So thankful for God Word and his nearness in the good and tough things of life!
Today’s reading was again packed with goodness! Like you, Wendy, I loved Jesus’ compassion to the widow. Such a perfect example for all of us to treat one another with compassion. And the second part of verse 15, “And Jesus gave him back to his mother,” was especially meaningful to me. Our son is away now, but I know God is working in his life and will someday bring him home.
Matthew 11:28-30 has always been a reassuring favorite verse of mine. “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest….’” Resting in Jesus is the most restorative rest. Great reminder to give it to Him & allow your body and spirit to rest.
And finally Luke 7:50 when Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
When you put these verses together as a whole, it’s such a beautiful message…don’t cry, Jesus gives rest, and faith in Jesus saves us so we can go in peace.
I love that Jesus may have been thinking of his own mother when he showed compassion to the widow whose son died.
