Don’t Deny Denial

But you ask, ‘How have we ever shown contempt for your name?
Malachi 1:6

My Takeaways

Something Old

Denial: refusal to recognize or acknowledge.

  • Denial will carry us to places we never intended to go
  • Denial will cause us to do things we never intended to do.
  • Denial will keep us blind to our own sin.

We have to keep it real with ourselves because God always keeps it real with us.

Something New

The priest gave Tobiah a room in the Temple.  The very room that once held offering to the Lord.  This is the same Tobiah who schemed with Sanballat to work against Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.  They not only let the enemy in the gates but they gave him a room in the Temple.

Something to Do

Accept and acknowledge my sin.

  1. Malachi 1:1-2:9 — what am I offering God? My best or my leftovers? Do I lack obedience to God’s Word because it’s hard? Is it easier to give up then press into obedience? Make up my mind to honor and obey God no matter what – to give Him my best. When I obey God Word I have life and peace. I must be in God’s Word and then obey it to receive those blessings. The Immeasurably more life comes at the intersection of god’s word and obedience. When I leave god’s word and stop obeying I loss out on the blessing and I can cause others to stumble into sin as well. God, help me to stay in your word and honor and obey it. Thank you for the blessing of life and peace you so generously give!!

  2. My Takeaways: Take God Seriously

Something Old: I finished the book of Nehemiah today. What a man of God he was. He was a very effective leader. He was honest and had strong moral principles. The people could always put their trust in him. He was committed to the people. But most of all God. He showed great courage in confronting the people with their sins. Nehemiah knew that if he took his eyes off God the city and all God’s people would crumble . I want to be a person that God can depend on to act for Him in this world. I must remember that God doesn’t want half-hearted measures from me. He wants to be the center of everything I do.

Something New: “I have always loved you,” says the LORD.” Malachi 1:2 What a true statement from the Lord. As I am about to wrap up the Old Testament readings I can reflect back on all of the interaction between God and his covenant people, and know how much God loved His people. As I move into the New Testament I will again see how God loved deeply, because he gave his life for me and you. God loves deeply today and I know that His love will never fail me. Knowing this helps me to stay committed to God. God deserves the best I have to offer. I need to willingly change my wrong ways of living and follow Him. This will happen when I listen to what God says in his word and then setting my heart, mind, and will on doing what he says.

Something To Do: Talk and walk with God, be a person that puts God’s words into actions. Fall head over heels in love with Jesus and everything else will fall in place.
