Jesus, My Cornerstone
From Judah will come the cornerstone, the tent peg, the bow for battle, and all the rulers.
Zechariah 10:4
My Takeaways
Something Old
With a promise to be rescued and reestablished, how could they reject Jesus?
With a promise of being rescued from Hell, how could anyone reject Jesus?
Something New
Though God is displeased with Israel’s shepherds, He will raise up the perfect shepherd from and for Judah.
- Jesus is the cornerstone: the foundation, measure, and standard (Isaiah 28:16, Psalm 118:22-23, Matthew 21:42, Acts 4:11, 1 Peter 2:4-5).
- Jesus is the tent peg: holding all things securely (Isaiah 22:23-24).
- Jesus is the battle bow: a strong fighter for good (Isaiah 63:1-4, Revelation 19:11-16).
- Jesus is the leader over every ruler of His people (Revelation 19:16).
Something to Do
Celebrate the Messiah, He came and He’s coming again.
My Takeaways: Victory Over Evil
Something Old: What a joy it was to read of Zechariah prophesies 500 years in advance about Jesus riding into Jerusalem. This gives me so much hope. If these prophesies could come true after 500 years why doubt the prophesies of Jesus second coming. It too, is certain to come true. History proves that God’s promises never fail. I can always rest assured that Jesus’s return is certain.
Something New: Zechariah 13:8,9-
“Two-thirds of the people in the land will be cut off and die, says the Lord. But one third will be left in the land. I will bring that group to the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call my name, and I will answer them. I will say these are my people, and they will say The Lord Is Our God.” God always takes care of his righteous remnant. I want to be among that one-third remnant that still trust and follow the Lord when Jesus returns. That means I need to stay in the word and live the way He wants me to. No matter what the rest of the world thinks and does I need to put all my hope in Jesus Christ, because I know that one day I will be purified and made more like God. What a happy day that will be!
“You can’t understand the New Testament if you don’t understand the Old Testament!” That is a true statement. These prophecies that I read about today in the Old Testament only strengthened my faith in the New Testament. Jesus Christ is LORD of all and He alone controls His world.
Something To Do: Always be ready for Jesus return by staying closely connected. Let His Spirit enable me to do His will despite the obstacles I may face. I can always tap into His power source as long as His Spirit is alive in me.
