A Wise Man
The king was furious when he heard this, and he ordered that all the wise men of Babylon be executed.
Daniel 2:12
My Takeaways
Something Old
The king called in his magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers…
Who do I call? Do I have wise friends?
Something New
A Wise Person
- Asks questions with wisdom and discretion (Daniel 2:15)
- Praises God right away for answered prayer (Daniel 2:20-23)
- Never takes credit for something God did. (Daniel 2:28)
- Points others to God in troubled situations. (Daniel 2:30)
Something to Do
Follow Daniel’s wise ways.
My Takeaways: Daniel a Man Willing to Stand Up and Represent the One True God
Something Old: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, a story I’ve heard a million times but it never fails to a
amaze me. Daniel 3:18 “But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” I love this verse. What courageous men these guys were.
Even though they were facing the most powerful King in the world they never forgot who their God was. Their faith was amazing and resulted in God’s supreme power being revealed to unbelievers. I will never be able to bring the world to Christ by becoming like it. Even if God does not show up in my life as I hope he might, I still must have faith like these guys and know that when trouble comes my way, my only hope is found in Jesus Christ. (I always have wondered where was Daniel when all this was happening?)
Something New: Daniel 2:18 “He urged them to ask the God of Heaven to show them his mercy by telling them the secret, so they would not be executed along with the other wiseman of Babylon.” I love the way Daniel handles the whole situation with the King. The first thing he does is to find his friends and they prayed. And of course when the secret was revealed to Daniel that night in a vision the first thing he does is to praise God. Daniel new that prayer was more effective than panic. He also knew that it was more important to stop and thank God for answering his prayer then to go run off shouting out his excitement to Arioch. I love the way that Daniel took advantage of the opportunity he had without letting the opportunity take advantage of him.
Something To Do: Be true to God no matter how difficult the pressure or the punishment. Trust God in every situation with pray and thanksgiving.
Thank you, Lisa for these two gems:
“Even if God does not show up in my life as I hope he might, I still must have faith like these guys and know that when trouble comes my way, my only hope is found in Jesus Christ.”
“Daniel new that prayer was more effective than panic.”
