Search And Seek
Search for the LORD and for His strength; continually seek Him.
Psalm 105:4
My Takeaways
Something Old
Study repeated and similar words in the Word. Their meanings mean so much.
Something New
- Search: darash (daw-rash’)
to tread or frequent; usually to follow (for pursuit or search); by implication, to seek or ask; specifically to worship:– diligently, inquire, make inquisition, question, require, search, seek - Continually evermore of going on without interruption = continuously
- Seek: baqash ( baw-kash’)
search out (by any method, specifically in worship or prayer); by implication, to strive after:–ask, beg, beseech, desire, get, make inquisition, procure, (make) request, require, seek (for).
Something to Do
Search and seek.
Psalm 105 and 106 seem to be a historical account of God’s people going back as far as Abraham and even creation. These psalms bring back our sense of awe and wonder and they also remind us how quickly we humans forget.
Psalm105:8 – “He always stands by His covenant-the commitment He made to a thousand generations.” Again today I am feeling that sense of connection to the past. I’m reminded that these ancient word are also meant for me.
Psalm106:47-48 – “Save us, O Lord our God! Gather us back from among the nations….” I don’t think this is necessarily a physical gathering, but a gathering of our spirits with God’s – unity, recognizing the holy in each other.
Our country and our world is currently very broken and divided. This sense of “gathering in God” could go a long way in healing our human condition, in fact I think it is the only way.
My Takeaways: Remembering what God has Done
Something Old: I read two Psalms today that almost seemed like one. Both reminded the people of Israel of the great things God had done for them. I can’t sabotage my present by forgetting the past. I must always remember what God has done and remind myself often of His love, provision, protection, and grace. Forgetting who God is and what he has done can make me become prideful, allowing me to live my entire life with no purpose. The reading today reminded me of Laura Story’s song “Blessings”.
Something New: Psalm 196:3 “There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right.” God wants my whole heart. I will not be successful in Christ until I become dependent on the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. This dependence in Jesus will allow me to be continually successful everyday in my life no matter what. When I depend on God my life changes.
Something To Do: Depend on God and share His glory to others
