Doing What is Right When it is Difficult

This what the LORD says, “Be just and fair to all. Do what is right and good, for I am coming soon to rescue you and to display my righteousness among you.”
Isaiah 56:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

Doing what is right.  When it is difficult, that doesn’t require my understanding, it requires my obedience.

Something New

I love how this verse connects us to Micah 6:8.

No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Something to Do

Handle my tough situation the way God expects me to:  By being just and fair to all, and by doing what is right and good.

  1. My Takeaways: Fulfilled prophecy proves that the Bible’s author is God.

Something Old: Isaiah 53: There is no way that I can ignore this powerful chapter in our reading today. The prophet Isaiah gives a picture of a suffering servant who would one day die so that men may live. This suffering servant is non other then Jesus Christ. It is hard to believe that these words of Isaiah’s were written years before Christ was even born. Only God would choose to save the world through a person that was so humbled and suffered so much. He wasn’t what the world would expect to see as their King. Which makes Isaiah 55:8 all the more meaningful “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” How true. What a wonderful gift God has given me — freedom from the penalty of sin because of the suffering of His Son. Wow, there is no greater love than that! I have to stop and really ponder over this chapter today. Do I really understand what it cost the Lord Jesus Christ to save me from my sins? It’s incomprehensible to me to really understand what He had to pay to redeem me from slavery and death. Can I really ever thank Him enough? When I digest this chapter I realize that Isaiah 56:1, “This is what the LORD says, “Be just and fair to all. Do what is right and good, for I am coming soon to rescue you and to display my righteousness among you,” really isn’t asking much from from me at all. As always with God, I get the better deal. Because in the end He is coming to make His world His own.

Something New: People say there is nothing free in life. But I learned today from Isaiah 55:1-6 that this is not true. God’s salvation is free. He freely gives it to anyone who will receive it.

Something To Do: Take time to thank the Lord for sending His Lamb to be slaughtered in my place. Seek God now, while I can before it’s too late.
