Sometimes We Need To Rededicate Ourselves
Then the Levites went to King Hezekiah and gave him this report: “We have cleansed the entire Temple of the LORD, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the table of the Bread of the Presence with all its utensils.”
2 Chronicles 29:18
My Takeaways
Something Old
The Work of the Temple Resumes
- The work of and worship in the Temple had stopped. Hezekiah changed all that.
- He reopened the Temple and repaired its doors. (2 Chronicles 29:3)
- They removed the defiled things in the Temple. (2 Chronicles 29:5b)
- The priests purified themselves. (2 Chronicles 29:15)
- They priests purified Israel by making sacrifices. (2 Chronicles 29:24)
- They were careful to obey all of the instructions of the Lord. (2 Chronicles 29:15b)
- They recovered the defiled items of the Temple. (2 Chronicles 29:19)
- They removed idols at home. (2 Chronicles 31:3)
- They praised and worshiped Him (2 Chronicles 29:30, 35)
Something New
Dedicate: to devote (oneself, one’s time, etc) wholly to a special purpose or cause; commit wholeheartedly or unreservedly
Rededicate: to devote (oneself, one’s time, etc) wholly to a special purpose or cause; commit wholeheartedly or unreservedly again.
- Reopen-allow God keep the door to your heart
- Repair-allow God to repair your heart
- Remove- let the Holy Spirit help you remove the idols of your heart
- Recover-allow God to recover the sacred that has been defiled and discarded- self-worth, value, integrity, honor, faithfulness, truthfulness, dignity
Something to Do
Daily rededicate myself.
Thanks Wendy for this lesson. My something to do- is to rededicate my life to God everyday and surrender all. Surrendering to God isn’t something that you do just once it is something you have to do all the time. I have surrendered all to God but sometimes I feel like I start holding tightly to my dreams and desires again and I become in control again and not God. Surrendering is a constant thing in my life. God is in control.
My Takeaways: Hezekia’s Spiritual Revival
Something Old: “In all that he did in the service of the Temple and in his efforts to follow God’s law and the commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful.” (31:21)
It only takes one person to make a difference Hezekiah was that one person. Yes, he was the King, but his leadership led those who followed him to do likewise.
Something New: Before Hezekiah reached the kingdom, he started with his city; and before he reached his city, he started with a small group- the priest and theLevites. It only took one believing heart, who had a great relationship with God to bring the people back into a spiritual awakening.I can start small by influencing those around me. When they see my positive energy it should inspire them to inspire others.
Something To Do: Remember what God can do with a eager heart! Be ready for action when opportunities arrive.
