My Takeaways: The Coming of the Lord
Something Old: Wow what a read today. So many big nuggets were given in these 4 verses. Very hard to just pull out a small nugget.
Isaiah shared many prophecies with which I am so familiar with today. He will be born a virgin. (7:14) He will bring joy to Israel.(9:3) He will govern the world. (9:6) He will reign on the throne of David. (9:7) He will be empowered by the Holy Spirit. (11:2) He will judge in righteousness, justice, and faithfulness. (11:3-5) He will descend from Jessie in the linkage of David. (11:1) He will restore the nation’s.(11:10) What hope I have in Jesus Christ, my Lord, my Savior.
Something New: Through all of this destruction and despair, God’s grace was still evident. He reminded every- one that His promised Messiah was coming. “And the spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.” (11:2) Praise God for sending His Son Jesus Christ to be the light and salvation of all. In the midst of Israel’s darkness and depression, these words brought comfort and hope just as they do today. No one but Jesus Christ can have royal titles as these: Wonderful counselor — exceptional, distinguish, always gives the right advice.
Mighty God — He is God himself. Everlasting Father — timeless, God my Father.
Prince of Peace — His rule is always full of justice and peace. (9:1-7). Jesus Christ is my true light. He is my only hope in times of darkness. What amazing grace He has. I can’t ignore His love and guidance. He has delivered me. My almighty, sovereign God lives today and is in control, working out His purposes for my life. What more do I need to know?
Something To Do: “Do not fear anything except the Lord Almighty… If you fear Him, you need to fear nothing else. He will keep you safe” (8:11-14).
