No Piggy-Backing

All his life Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD’s sight because Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
2 Kings 12:2

My Takeaways

Something Old

Piggy-back or borrowed faith will fail in a crisis.

Something New

How do you make your faith your own?

  • Make the Word and ways of the Lord personal.
  • Meditate on it day and night (Joshua 1:8) until it becomes second nature to you.

How long does this take? Until He calls us home. It will be the greatest adventure of your life.

Something to Do

Still working hard to own my own faith.

  1. Loved the lesson today! Wendy you are so right about making our relationship with the Lord our own. Until I make the transformation how can I ever expect the process of sanctification to begin?

My Take Aways: A Man of Influence

Something Old: It takes daily commitment and a conscience effort to do what is pleasing to the Lord. King Joash had done some good things, he was under the direction of a great priest; and, when that priest was gone, Joash’s true colors began to show. It’s just like the old saying when the cat’s away the mice will play. Jehoiada became a man of influence, but did he do too much for young Joash? I wonder if he ever taught Joash how to make decisions on his own? People need to fail while under the direction of a mentor, so they learn how to act wisely when they are finally let go. My goal as a parent was always to teach my children enough so they could make it on their own without me. Allow them to grow up. Joash became too dependent on Jehoiada, resulting in a King that only knew how to rely on his advisers regardless of the advise given.

Something New: I loved how God was in the background orchestrating everything in today’s lesson. God promised a Savior in the line of David. Athaliah thinks that she has wiped out David’s descendants, but she learns that no one trumps God. God is always going to do what he says he will do, the sooner I realize this the better off I become. The enemy’s goal is always to “steal, kill, and destroy,” but God is greater. His plan will not be stopped; His promise will prevail!

Something To Do: Make sure I am providing a godly influence to those around me.The enemy is timeless and relentless. The battle is never over. I can never let down my guard. I must rely upon God for help. Always keeping my faith in Him; allowing for a deeper relationship through Him.
