  1. Today, Wendy reminded us to stay in the Light of God’s Word. Today’s lesson reminded me of Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world…let your good deeds (your light) shine out, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.” I need to make sure I shine in the way God wants me to and then always give God the credit. My good deeds are a reflection of my Father’s glory. Like the song we learned as children, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine!”

  2. Mty Takeaways: Vengeance Not Revenge

Something Old: 2 Chron. 21:12-14 Every relationship I have makes an impact on future generations. The choices I make today affect tomorrow’s children and grandchildren. Follow me on this. Jehoshaphat’s son Jehoram had married Ahab’s daughter, Athaliah (the daughter of wicked Ahab and Jezebel). Their son, Ahaziah, becomes King. He walks not in the ways of his paternal grandfather Jehoshaphat, but in the ways of his maternal grandfather, Ahab. Athaliah murdered all her grandson’s except Joash and made herself queen leaving her mark on Ahaziah. Jehoram’s marriage may have been politically advantageous, but spiritually it was deadly. God says to marry someone equally yoked. A marriage relationship is a covenant made before God. Forgetting what God desires invites the same disaster into my home. My relationships really do matter so I must choose them wisely.

Something New: Remember in yesterdays reading (2 Kings 9:7), “You are to destroy the family of Ahab. In this way, I will avenge the murder of my prophets and all the Lord’s servants who were killed by Jezebel”
Vengeance: Just; upright, sutable, due, complete, and proper.
Revenge: unjust retribution, when one inflicts pain on another maliciously or unlawfully.
As awful as today’s reading was it did give me a bit of satisfaction to read that Jazebel and Ahab were held accountable for their deeds. God is the only one in the universe who can consistently allow just retribution on an evil-doer with pure motives and the force of law, His law. God uses vengeance. People choose revenge. What happened to Ahab and his family was terrible but proper; their punishment fit the crime. The people of God were innocent of any wrongdoing, yet they were slaughtered in a brutal way. God placed His wrath on the perpetrators. This was reasonable and right because vengeance belongs to God. Jehu was noted to be cruel and vindictive, but God is sovereign and He is able to use wicked men to achieve His purposes.

Something To Do: Stay committed to God. Remember His ways are always best. God takes care of wrong doers, let Him handle them in His way. I never need to seek revenge.
