For They Saw
When all Israel heard the king’s decision, the people were in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom God had given him for rendering justice. 1 Kings 3:28
My Takeaways
Something Old
I am God’s ambassador. I work for God.
Something New
What do they see in me?
Something to Do
Represent my Boss well, wherever I go.
Having just read the story of Hagar, I was also grateful that not only is the challenge for us to represent Christ so that others see us, but also we can be comforted in the fact that we have a God who sees us.
Today was a rough day. Having two family members that are gay and partnering up, it grieves me to know that they have turned their back on God. Pray with me that someone will show the love and truth of Christ to them and that the Holy Spirit will convict them of their sin. Also, pray for me and my husband and we maneuver this waters.
Praying.
Wendy this was such a great teaching and I LOVED your takeaway that you work for God. This was just an incredible eye-opening lesson for me. I have never thought about my actual work and roles in life as being “working for God”. WOW!! This was a teaching I definitely needed today! Thank you for representing God well and bringing all of us closer to Him! –Katie!
My Takeaways: Wise decisions by a wise man
Something Old: God gave Solomon a wise and understanding heart which is evident in our reading today (1 Kings 3:16-28). Solomon put it into action when he settled the dispute between the two mothers. This allowed all of Israel to see that God was behind the wisdom that Solomon had received.
Something New: “He sent them to Lebanon in shifts, 10,000 every month, so that each man would be one month in Lebanon and two months at home.” 1 Kings 5:14 I love this verse. Solomon again acted on his wisdom when he saw the importance for the workers to be at home with their family 2 out of the 3 months. He gave the family top priority. Solomon’s wisdom helped him to realize that the strength of a nation is in direct proportion to the strength of its families. Could this be the problem with America today? Have we neglected our families to the point that our society is falling apart? Don’t miss the main purpose for the temple, the message God gave to Solomon in 1 Kings 6:13-14 “Concerning this temple you are building, if you keep all my decrees and regulations and obey all my commands, I will fulfill through you the promise I made your father David. I will live among the Israelites and will never abandon my people Israel.” Today we don’t need a temple because we have the Holy Spirit, but the same principal applies. If I close my heart to God, I will lose the Holy Spirit’s power and presence that lives inside of me. Without His Spirit I am nothing.
Something To Do: Remember that family comes first. Work my schedule around family to keep it strong and intact. Keep close to God in everything I do. Start and end my day by being in the word and talking to God. Remember what God expects from me and follow through on his commands.
I loved today’s lesson, Wendy. I also really appreciate the above comments that readers have shared. To think that we all have the opportunity to work for God – to represent God in all areas of our lives! What an awesome opportunity AND what an awesome responsibility! Lord, help me remember and stay true to You in all that I do. I want to represent You well.
When reading about the building of the temple today, I was trying so hard to imagine it’s magnitude. Finally I found several short video clips on YouTube called Solomon’s Temple Explained that helped me envision what it may have looked like. It took 7 years to build the temple. It often takes us much longer to “work on our Temples,” but with Gods help we can build beautiful human houses to hold Gods love and His Holy Spirit. Then we can use these human Temples to honor and work for God.

You’ve got my prayers. I’m praying that God will lead you to be the one to show the love and truth of Christ to them and that the Holy Spirit will convict them of their sin.
My niece is gay, married her partner, and now they share a daughter. But I keep reminding myself that all people have sin in their lives, but that doesn’t mean they have less worth to God. So no matter what sin people are involved in (fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, thieves, coveters, drunkards, revilers, swindlers, etc.), they’re still worth God’s love. I love my niece even though I dont approve of her life style. I too pray for my niece and trust in the hope of salvation that she can receive through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Stay faithful to the Lord as you respond to your gay family members by honoring His Word, and leave the results to Him. Know that God is in the business of regenerating hearts, God can do amazing things. I won’t forget to add you and your family members to my prayer list. Hang in there.
