I Wait
I waited patiently for the LORD to help me,…
Psalm 40:1a
My Takeaways
Something Old
I wait….
Qavah (kaw-vaw) : look for, tarry, hope, expect, to bind together (perhaps by twisting and then tension)
If I wait, what does He do while I wait?
He…
- Turns (v1) Inclines
Natah (naw-taw’) – bend or stretch
“As when someone’s attention is arrested and riveted.”
- Hears (v1)
shama ((shaw-mah) – to hear intelligently (often with implication of attention)
- Lifts (v2)
Alah( aw-law) – to go up
We don’t have lift, we have to look
- Sets and Establishes (v2)
Quwm (koom) – rise, stand up, directs, confirms
- Transforms (v3)
New, fresh, new thing
Isaiah 43:18-19 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. (NIV)
Something New
Wait transforms me. Ah ha moment.
Something to Do
Wait and watch God work.
I am thankful you are a word nerd! Your definitions have helped me see these commonly used words in a fresh way and see how personal God is and acts to each one of us. Thank you!
My Takeaways: More Psalms: Davids journaling-revealing his heart
Something Old: These Psalms continue to teach me about God’s eternal love and care for me. I will always trust Him through suffering, sorrow and joy!
Something New- Psalm 40:1-3 Humility waits before God and believes that it is always too soon to quit trusting God—in any situation (v1). Impossible isn’t a part of Gods vocabulary. He turns the impossible into possible for those who wait for Him (v2). My response to personal failure reveals my theology–what I really believe about God. (V3).David’s entire life testifies that no matter what happens in life, God has the backs of those who trust in Him. What God does for David He will do for me.
Something To Do: Put my faith and trust in God. Wait patiently for God to act in His time.
