The LORD Is My

I love you LORD, You are my strength.
Psalm 18:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

“To the faithful…to those with integrity…to the pure” 2 Samuel 22:26

  • If I am faithful (kind), He will be faithful (merciful).
  • If I have integrity (blameless-sincerity of heart), He will show integrity (complete).
  • If I am pure, He will show Himself pure.

Something New

The LORD is

  • My Strength: mental power, force, or vigor. When we are weak, He is strong for me.
  • My Rock: Rocks are a source of protection and defense as danger threatens When we feel defeated, it is His power that brings victory.
  • My Fortress: a safe place. When we feel afraid He is our safe place.
  • My Deliverer: to carry to away to safety. When we need to be carried away emotionally, physically, mentally, or spiritually, God will.
  • My God: Lord of Covenant; God of Covenant. God is my covenant, promise keeping God.
  • My Shield: typically held in the left hand, enables the warrior to defend attacks from the front. When we aren’t alert and able to defend frontal attacks, God will. He protects from the front and all around. (Psalm 139:5)
  • My Horn of my salvation: A bull’s horns display its power. When we needed to be saved, He is our Savior. Our Lord is the power of our salvation, both eternally and physically.
  • My Stronghold: my high retreat. When I need a place to hide out, God is my hiding place.

Something to Do

Praise the Lord who is my everything. I have nothing to fear because He is my defense when I am defenseless, strength when I am weak, deliverer when I need rescue, and safety when I am afraid.

  1. My Take Aways: A hymn of thanksgiving- Psalm 18 is so powerful it’s written twice in the Bible.

Something Old: David was no coward, but even with all his armies and weapons, he knew he needed God. He was the only one that could protect and save him.

Something New: Truths about God are revealed – David gives these characteristics: HE IS- saving, worthy of praise, hearing, angry (against enemies), rescuing, rewarding, seeing, faithful, showing (revealing) himself, shrewd, powerful, strong, perfect, pure, flawless, shielding (us from enemies), giving, gentle, preserving, living

Something To Do: As I read through my Bible I should keep a journal of other characteristics of God. Thanking Him for my many blessings and gifts that He has so generously given to me. Praise God wholeheartedly like David.
