My Kinsman Redeemer
“…it’s true that I am one of your family redeemers…”
Ruth 3:12
My Takeaways
Something Old
Leviticus 25:47-49
The qualifications of a kinsman redeemer:
- must be a kinsman
- must be free
- able to pay the price
- willing to pay the price
Something New
Redeemer – one who redeems
Redeem
- to buy or pay off; clear by payment
- to recover (something pledged or mortgaged) by payment or other satisfaction
- to exchange
My Redeemer is Jesus!
- He cleared my payment for sin.
- He recovered my dead life.
- He exchanged His life for mine.
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us–for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”– in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (NASB) Galatians 3:13-14
But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption. (NASB) 1 Corinthians 1:30
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people. (NASB)
Luke 1:68
Something to Do
Worship my Redeemer.
My Takeaways: Through the mist of people doing whatever seemed right in their own eyes enter Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz. Good people who still followed the one true God.
Something Old: “So Naomi return from Moab, accompanied by her daughter-in-law Ruth, the young Moabite woman. They arrived in Bethlehem in late spring, at the beginning of the barley harvest.” (Ruth 1:22)
I can already see God’s hand in the story-Wasn’t David born there? I believe Jesus Christ was also born there. These two women weren’t just moving for convenience sake but to fulfill the scriptures. God was actively directing their lives for His purposes as he always does. He does the same thing for my life, so I must keep the door opened.
Something New: “But Ruth replied, don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” (Ruth 1:16)
God wants me to know that when I follow him, my life always mean more than I think it does. Everything I do in obedience to God, no matter how small, is significant. Its all connected to what is to come- a life of eternity with my heavenly Father. Just like Ruth and Noami, when I follow Jesus I become a part of something so much bigger than what I can possibly imagine. The best is yet to come. That is the truth for anyone who follows Christ in the obedience of faith.
Something To Do: Act selflessly, don’t let hard times blind me of what God can do. Today is always a new opportunity for experiencing God’s love and care for me.Things always happen in my life for a reason it’s not luck or coincidence. I must always have faith. God is directing my life for his purpose.
