Something Old

Something New
Trumpets
The Levites were charged with blowing silver trumpets as a call to announce important meetings. Two trumpets meant everyone must come. One trumpet summoned leadership only.
Prophesying
The Asaph branch of the Levites sang prophesy set to the music of harps, lyres and cymbals.
Daily Songs
The Levites were to offer God standing praises, singing their appreciation once in the morning and once in the evening.
Temple Dedication
All the Levites dressed in the finest linens and sang praises outside the Holy Place during the Temple dedication. Their song was covered by the cloud of God’s glory, according to the Bible.
Altar Worship
According to the Bible, Levites worked at the atonement altar daily offering praise and worship to the Lord.
Everyone has a place to serve others and minister to the Lord. We each are used differently in Kingdom service. I love how God uniquely designs our service!

Something to Do
Praise Him today.
I love music. Music definitely speaks to me. There is no way that I could ever find one piece of worship music that was my favorite. I love them all so much. I listen to worship music while I’m cleaning my house, while I’m making dinner, while I’m driving in my car, when I’m going on my walks, etc. I love gospel music- old, new and in between. But to choice one favorite would absolutely be impossible for me. Depending on my mood and where I’m at, that day, decides what type of worship music I will listen to at that moment.
My Takeaways: David shows lots of Kindness, revealing his true heart.
Something Old: David fulfilled his promise (1 Samuel 20:15) when Jonathan asked him to treat his children kindly in the future. He took Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth, in as his own to live in the palace and eat with him at the table. He treated him like a prince. The kindness, grace and mercy that David showed Mephibosheth is a true reflection of Jesus Christ. Even though I am crippled with sin Jesus does not forget me-He says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Not because I deserve it but because of God’s promise to me!
Something New: “It happened after this that the king of the people of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place. Then David said, ‘I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” David’s kindness is misunderstood. How often have I done the same thing? When someone is trying to do good for me instead of accepting it and being grateful, I often question it and wonder what the hidden motive is behind it all. Shame on me.
Something To Do: Don’t let someone’s kindness rob me of receiving a blessing. I need to stop being suspicions about the motives of others. Acts of kindness are often just that—acts of kindness, accept them. Stop being so defensive.
Yes! How Great Thou Art is an all time favorite. Also love Breathe on Me Breath of God, In the Garden, and from childhood, It is My Father’s World. Oh there are so many…I especially love all the old hymns we used to sing at my grandparents’ churches.
I love your choices!
Some of my old ones, for sure:
It Is Well With My Soul
Amazing Grace. (I’ve needed so much of !!!)
What A Friend We Have In Jesus
Holy Holy Holy
Yes I love your choices too!!!
Oh, Girls-I Love all your song choices! Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling is close to my heart because it’s the song that was being sung when I went forward and gave my life to Jesus many years ago. I also love Alan Jackson. So his album of gospel songs, entitled Precious Memories, always brings joy to my heart when I play it. Check it out on YouTube and I bet it will bring some joy to you.
Lots of Godly attributes noted in today’s reading. (I’m sure there are more!)
II Samuel 9:1. KINDNESS. Not only did David extend kindness to Saul’s family, but he took…..
II Samuel 9:4…..INITIATIVE. He went out of his way to search out and find the son of Jonathan. He could easily have neglected this. How often do we decide not to follow up simply because it would take extra effort?
II Samuel 10:2. LOYALTY. The NLT uses the word loyalty to describe what David tried to do in extending condolences to Hanun upon the death of his father. This was another characteristic of David which honored God.
II Samuel 10:5. RESPECT. When David found out what had been done to his men he had sent to Hanun, he allowed them to remain in Jericho until their beards grew out. He knew the humiliation this caused them as many of that culture would have rather died than to have their beards cut. A clean shaven man was seen to be a slave while a beard was the mark of a free man. Cutting their robes to expose their circumcision was another deliberate provocation and an extreme offense.
II Samuel 10:7. COURAGE. David’s response was swift and decisive in answering the aggression.
II Samuel 10:12. RELIANCE. Joab told his men to be brave and he prepared them well, but ultimately he knew Who held the result….. “May the Lord’s will be done.”
II Samuel 10:18. PERSISTANCE. The enemies of Israel wouldn’t quit after one defeat, but the army of Israel persevered and obtained a sound victory.
CLEAN by Natalie Grant….I tear up every time I hear that song…a powerful worship song. ” Washed in the blood of your sacrifice, your blood flowed red and made me white..my dirty rags are purified …I am CLEAN “
