Long For The Life God Gives Me
“Who am I O LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? “
1 Chronicles 17:16
My Takeaways
Something Old
By longing for what I don’t have:
- I am unable to find satisfaction with what God has already given me.
Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” (NASB) Hebrews 13:5 - I limit the life of godliness God died for me to have.
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. (ESV) 1 Timothy 6:6-8 - I miss the life God has assigned for me.
Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches. (ESV) 1 Corinthians 7:17
Something New
David dedicated all that he gained through his victories to the LORD. He recognized God empowered him to victory.
Something to Do
Live longing for God, and everything else will fall in place.
My Takeaways: David’s desire was right but his timing was wrong.
Something Old: God may have said no, but he had bigger plans for David. God told David that he would build a house- a dynasty- for David forever.
Something New: 2 Samuel 7:12-14
God shifts from Solomon to Jesus Christ-the ultimate fulfillment of this convenant. Salvation would come through David’s line – through the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. David didn’t understand why God was so good to him but he was thankful, that’s just how God is today, full of mercy, regardless of what I might have done. He hasn’t changed one bit throughout history. This is an amazing chapter. The promise God gave to David were fulfilled through Jesus Christ. God promised a king and a kingdom to come in the line of David. This King was going to be much more than a man. He would become my Savior! The whole message of the Bible rest upon this promise that God made to David. This is great news and a great promise for all mankind!
Something To Do: Remember that God is so good, He’s so good to me! Thank God for keeping his promise. Understand what God did for me- he build me a house-a house of eternity. Thank you God for sending us your son-a Savior! I will always put my trust and belief in Him, for He is the one true God who always keeps His promises.
