About Waiting
Then the men of Judah came to David and anointed him king over the people of Judah.
2 Samuel 2:4a
My Takeaways
Something Old
David remarked longingly to his men, “Oh, how I would love some of that good water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem.” 2 Samuel 23:15
David received the desire of his heart, and poured it out as an offering to God. Would I respond like David?
Something New
The truth about waiting:
- Sometimes we have to wait and wait again.
- Things don’t always turn out exactly as we planned, but things will always turn out as God planned.
- Pauses are places meant to strengthen our resolve, not weaken our faith.
- We can’t let the object of our wait become our idol in our life.
Something to Do
Don’t rush the wait.
My Takeaways: David has great leadership skills.
Something Old: David knew he would become king because Samuel had anointed him years earlier. Even with that knowledge he still brought the matter before God.
Something New: 1 Chronicles 11:10 “These are the leaders of David’s Mighty Warriors. Together with all Israel, they decided to make David their King, just as the Lord had promised concerning Israel.” David surrounded himself around Mighty Men. David realized he was only as strong as the men he surrounded himself by. He recognized each individual man’s strength. Putting all of them together, to make a strong army. He chose men that trusted God. David learn from Saul’s mistakes. He choose men who respected him and we’re completely devoted to him. David had some great leadership qualities to get his men to become such great heroes like the “three” and the “thirty” 2Samuel 23:13 David was a good leader when he was following his leader!
Something To Do: I need to always follow God and ask Him what I need to do even when it seems so easy and obvious. I am only as great as the leader I follow. When I’m grounded in God I never need to fear. Let God and his people be the only leader I follow.
