The Best To Stay Right With God

In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to fight the Ammonites.  They destroyed the Ammonite army and laid siege to the city of Rabbah.  However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem.
2 Samuel 11:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

  • Be in the Word and on my knees.
Search for the LORD and for His strength; continually seek Him. 1 Chronicles 16:11
  • Be where I should be, doing what I should be doing.
… when kings normally go out to war…  2 Samuel 11:1
  • Be real with myself and God concerning my sin.
Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.”  2 Samuel 12:13a

Something New

Aha Moment for me today:

Being in the Word, and on the knees; being where I should be, and doing what I should be doing, will make being real with myself and God concerning my sin so much easier.

Something to Do

Be right with God. Stay right with God.

  1. My Takeaways: It is never good to try and cover up sin.

Something Old: I always have so many things I ponder after reading this story. How come Bathsheba went with David? Did a king have so much power that she could not have reminded him that she was a married woman and needed to go home ? Why did it take so long for Nathan to talk to David? After all the baby had already been born, so I know it was at least 9 months that David had to carry the guilt of this sin before it came out into the open. I wonder how old the baby was before he died? We know he was at least 7 days old, but could he had been a toddler? Not that it matters, but I would think the more time spent being with the child, would make it harder to give the child up. I always found it interesting that Nathan was the one that brought David’s sin before him and Bathsheba and David named one of their sons Nathan. I wonder what that was all about? I found 2 Samuel 12:23 interesting. “… I will go to him one day, but he cannot return to me.” I think this verse answers any and all my questions about what happens to babies when they die. They obviously go to heaven to be with God. David knew also where he would be after he left this earth. But now I wonder when is a person accountable before God. What if a 7 year old dies, a 14 year old, or is it different for every individual? God knows our hearts, but I still ponder many things.

Something New: 2 Samuel 11:27 “… but the Lord was displeased with what David had done” God never let’s sins go unpunished. There are always consequences for the wrongs that I do. One sin leads to another sin which leads to more sins until I finally just become callus to my sins. Just like David. It’s a slow fade just like the song by Casting Crowns.
Be careful little eyes what you see
It’s the second glance that ties your hands
    As darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white are turned to gray
And thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
    When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
    It’s a slow fade, it’s a slow fade

Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattering leads to compromises, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises leave broken hearts astray

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white are turned to gray
And thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
    When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
    It’s a slow fade, it’s a slow fade

The journey from your mind to your hands
    Is shorter than you’re thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
    You just might be sinking

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white are turned to gray
And thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
    When you give yourself away

People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day

Oh, be careful little eyes what you see
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see

Something To Do: Take my wrong actions to God before I forget they are sins. Ask God to help me understand my own flaws more clearly. Remember all sins have consequences so think before I act. Don’t dwell in my sins- remember to confess and repent because God is always ready to forgive.
