When Someone Else Is Picked To Do My Job
One day the LORD said to Moses, “Climb one of the mountains east of the river, and look over the land I have given the people of Israel.”
Numbers 27:12
My Takeaways
Something Old
I always want God to change His mind, and let Moses into the Promised Land.
Something New
Moses:
- Doesn’t argue with God.
- Prays for the person who will get his job.
- Obeys God.
The End
Something to Do
Accept what God says.
I am sad Moses does not get to enter the Promised Land, yet amazed at how well he accepts it. Perhaps, Moses being with God since he lead the people out of Egypt changed his heart. He had witnessed Gods blessings for the people, his protection, provision and his anger against the Israelites when they disobeyed. He was not the same Moses that we first encountered in Exodus that commited murder and had to flee from Pharaoh.
Moses trusted God’s plan for the people. And this message honestly when I first started my reading, I thought was a lot of the same what the offerings were. But,it is definitely a revelation that God has a plan and his plan is best! When he says this is the end of the road for me, don’t resist, accept I have served my time or fulfilled my duties.
Something to do
Pray for a heart of acceptance for God’s plan.
Amen! Yes, He is one cool God!! Thank you Wendy! You bless me each and every day with your teaching of God’s Word. Praying for you as you continue to lead us in RTW!
I would also have not taken it too well, like Moses did. I would go on strike and tell them to go find a way to figure it all out then if I was not allowed to do it myself. UGH!!! Maybe knowing what I know now I wouldn’t but it is certainly and honestly the first reaction that comes up. And I don’t want that because I am trying to grow in accepting whatever plan God has for me. Besides that Moses did something against Gods will, there was a reason God didn’t want him to enter the promised land. God also has His reasons to prevent me sometimes from entering new land, whatever area it may be. And nearly always that has something to do with the choices I made before that. I guess it will still take a while to come to that stage that I am completely surrendered to Gods will and His way for me. But knowing that I am on my way already makes me very excited and thankful. And also hopeful. I am further than I was before and I am heading even further… We do have a Cool God!!! And Awesome Loving God!! Have a wonderful day all of you!!!
Good morning sisters, praying each of you feel God’s presence today. I am in a time of waiting right now and the past few days I’ve been thinking Lord why are you silent? I know I need to wait but I don’t hear you saying anything and I miss your voice.
After today’s reading and video I decided to start my day with a bath (usually I take a shower) but today is rainy and damp and I was up early. While in the bath, these thoughts came to me:
Th reason that Moses accepted God’s plan and his replacement by Joshua was because he accepted God’s discipline. This demonstrates his understanding of what he did wrong and God’s judgement. Actually he’d seen worse – he’d seen people struck down dead including 2 of Aaron’s sons. Could it be possible he was relieved the punishment wasn’t worse? That’s my new thought for today.
Also I reflected on God repeating Moses’ offence. Based on what we know of Moses I don’t think he needed to be reminded so that got me thinking about why did God bring it up. Could it actually be for us and not Moses? Could it be because he knew generations to come would struggle with this part of Moses’ story? Just something for me to ponder.
And above all, how faithful is our DADDY that when we say we are missing him, he shows up.
Have a blessed day ladies,
Wendy
Maybe I’m nuts but, what has been going on in my head for several days has been maybe God is doing Moses a big favor. He has lead these disobedient, complaining people for over 40 years and hard days are ahead. On one hand go to paradise or continue with this hard task???
That is a really interesting perspective. Moses did have to be disciplined for not obeying God … But in God’s judgement he held Moses accountable and also blessed him at the same time by saving him from more hardship.
I love your perspective! It is an Eternal one. This has often been my thought as well. Even in our daily lives we ask God for something and He (in His wisdom and mercy) denies our request or desire. In hindsight it very often turns out to be the very best thing for us and for His glory!!!
Thanks for posting!
I was thinking the exact thing as I was listening and reading. Moses is quite old now and to continue to put up with the Israelites could be a bit too much. He is being punished but also it may be a blessing.
What a great lesson today! Me too I am sad that Moses doesn’t get to enter the Promised Land and that Joshua replaces him for his job instead. My something to do- is to not argue with God and to trust and obey Him and accept what He says. I love how we have a cool God 🙂
My Takeaways: The sisters get the inheritance, Moses is reminded of his punishment, Joshua is told that he will take Moses’s place, offerings and sacrifices.
Something Old: Moses will die before he sees the promised land, but he will be able to view it from the mountain top. Death isn’t his final destination. He now gets to rest with the other Holy Patriarchs.
Something New: Numbers 27:12-23 Amazing in how well Moses handles all of this. So much to notice in these verses.1. Moses knows when he goes up that mountain, death will come his way, but even in death Moses stays true to God and is obedient. 2. Moses may not enter the promised land, but he is saved.”You (Moses) too will be gathered to your people”. So what’s all this about? Moses wasn’t perfect, but that didn’t mean God didn’t love him. Even though he faced death , he was still saved, going to be with the rest of the Holy Patriarchs . God always wants my obedience, not to prove myself to Him, but only because it is the best way to live out my life. That is what living in the “Promised Land” is all about. It is living a life where I fully trust God in every aspect of my life and in the decisions that I make. 3. Moses knew that the Israelites needed a leader to guide them. Instead of just saying I pick this guy to be the leader, he turned to God and asked him. God wants me to come to him for everything I need in order to get through this life. 4. God wants Moses to anoint Joshua as the next leader and he wants everyone to know. God wants me to know who my leader is and proclaim him to the world. 5. God spoke directly to Moses. Joshua was different – he had to go to the head priest for direction. Jesus is my head priest. He is the one I turn to for direction. 6. Again Moses does everything the Lord had commanded, and that is exactly what he wants from me. He wants me to follow him. This is just an amazing piece of scripture, so much to be said about it.
Something To Do: Do I care enough about future generations to fulfill what God has commanded me? I should be like Moses and want more then just God leading me. I need him to guide the lifes of others. Jesus gave me the Great Commission “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…..” (Matthew 28:19-20). That is what Jesus calls me to do and that is why Moses cared about the future of other believers and not just himself. I too want to do everything that the Lord has commanded. I must tell others. I must lead the next generation in sharing withthem – The Good News!
