Need To Know Basis

The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that He has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.
Deuteronomy 29:29

My Takeaways

Something Old

There are some things that the Lord our God has kept secret. Only he knows these things. But he told us about some things. And these teachings are for us and our descendants forever. And we must obey all the commands in that law. (ERV)

Only the Eternal knows the secret things. But we and our descendants are always responsible for what has been revealed to us, and we need to obey every word of this law.  (VOICE)

God, our God, will take care of the hidden things but the revealed things are our business. It’s up to us and our children to attend to all the terms in this Revelation.  (MSG)

  1. Great lesson! I have loved this verse ever since Wendy brought it up. I had read it before but didn’t catch on on the deeper meaning. Since being in RTW I have been speaking out lout the words of this verse many times. To myself mostly. And even though it does not make me like some situations more, I do feel peace. I know that Gods ways are different than my ways. I know that I can trust Him. I know that I am responsible for what He choses to reveal to me and, as Wendy says, He reveals only what I can handle / need to know at a certain time. And then it is up to me to work on that part. God will do the rest. It is that simple and that complicated. Simple because it comes down to not dwelling on what will be and what can be and the why’s and when’s, just do what I have to do, complicated in terms that I need to fully trust God and follow through with what He is revealing. My nature is to always make xtra plans / think about different outcomes. But I don’t have to and I shouldn’t actually. I have to trust Him and not lean on my own understanding. Loved the lesson and love that I can keep on growing in my trust in Him. Have a wonderful day all of you!! Love from Germany!!

      1. Malinda, I live in Niedermennig, 7 km. from Trier… I am originally Dutch but because of my husbands job we live here since September 2006…

  2. Excellent lesson today! This has to be one of my favorite lessons so far. I was one of those when reading today’s passage when I found the verse that Wendy has always been talking about I was like oh this is Wendy’s favorite Bible verse. I love Deuteronomy 29:29 now. Wendy gives it more meaning to me now. I love that God will reveal to me only what I need to know on a need to know basis. He has lots of secrets and He only reveals them to me at exactly the right time.

  3. This may be my new favorite verse as well! I think I’ll even write it inside my front cover too. It helps me to remember to trust in who God is and what he does, even if I don’t fully understand it. I like how Wendy discussed that with certain situations/discussions parents choose to only reveal what their children are able to comprehend or handle, and how God does this with his children as well. Such a great lesson today! Thank you, Wendy!

  4. When I read this verse, I remembered it being Wendy’s favorite. Having heard this before, every morning before I start my First5, RTW, devotions, I ask the Holy Spirit to help me understand what God’s wants me to understand that day. Realizing that I cannot understand all of it. If I don’t do this, I can be reading along, and wonder, ‘what is this saying’?

Thank you Wendy for the explanation of the verse.

  5. My Takeaways: Moses last plead.
I too love the same verse Wendy loves in our reading today. 🙂

Something Old: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God…” I don’t know what will happen a day from now, or a year from now–but God does know, and because He does, I can trust my future into His hands.

Something New: “…but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29). Moses wanted the people to understand this because there would be so much they didn’t know or understand. He had to reintegrate the importance for them to trust, obey and be humble before God. God revealed much to His people for the sake of their obedience.

Something To Do: So much that I can know about God and His will–
because God has revealed it to me. This is why the Bible is so important, because it is God’s Word, and in it I learn who He is and how He wants me to live. Most of all, the Bible points me to Christ, who came to save me from my sins and gave me the gift of eternal life. I must make God’s Word part of my life, and seek to live by its truth every day.The Bible is an instruction book to guide me through life. I will fail if I do not read and follow the instructions God has left me. The Words of the law are contained in the Bible. The Holy Spirit of God will reveal to me God’s will for my life. I must seek God with all my heart, and I will find Him. He wants to be my God. And guess what? I’m going to let Him.
