RTW March 19
Totally Committed To Them
“So be careful to obey them [decrees and regulations of the Lord] wholeheartedly.” Deuteronomy 26:16b
My Takeaways
Something Old
Careful (shamar): guard, keep watch, protect, watch for, wait for, retain, treasure up, (in memory) observe, and celebrate
Something New
Wholeheartedly: marked by an unconditional commitment, unstinting devotion, and unreserved enthusiasm.
Let’s pause and consider these phrases then revisit the question.
Wholeheartedly: marked by an
- unconditional commitment ~ commitment without qualifiers
- unstinting devotion ~ devotion without limitation or restriction
- unreserved enthusiasm ~ enthusiasm without reservation
God desires us to have an commitment without qualifiers, devotion without limits, and enthusiasm without reservation towards His commands.
In addition, we are to guard, protect, watch and wait for, retain, treasure up, observe and celebrate them.
Something to Do
Forgive me for qualifying my obedience, limiting my devotion, and obeying your commands with little to no enthusiasm.
Wow! Thank you for the wonderful and challenging teaching today. May I do everything unto the Lord wholeheartedly!
Trust and obey…for there is no other way…to be happy in Jesus…but to trust and obey.
Wendy,
I am so very thankful that God brought me to RTW.
I love so much about RTW that it’s difficult to even explain how great it is! But I just wanted to take a moment today to say thank you.
Blessings,
Lynn
Yes, thank you very much, Wendy. I don’t even won’t to waste any time getting to my RTW every morning!
Thank you for this great lesson! I want to hear God’s voice as clearly as you do Wendy. Sometimes I’m not sure if it’s God’s wish for me or my thoughts and plans. Praying for discernment and clarity
Me too! I have a very difficult time hearing God’s voice. Most of the time I feel like it is my mind deceiving me and it turns out to be lies and not the truth from God’s voice it is just my own thoughts. I would love to hear God’s voice more clearly like Wendy so that I will be able to obey God. I want to obey God and do whatever He tells me to only if I can hear His voice. I will be praying for lots of discernment and clarity for you to hear God’s voice.
Thank you Natalie. I will also pray for you. Our desire to “hear” God’s voice is surely a good first step. I wish you well in your journey!
You’re welcome Darena! Thanks so much for praying for me too.
Great lesson today! My something to do- is to obey God whatever He wants me to do no matter if it is uncomfortable for me or out of my comfort zone. I choose to obey God always. And I want to be able to hear God’s voice more clearly. I have a difficult time hearing God’s voice.
I have a funny story about shopping carts and people not returning them back to the shopping cart return. One day I went to the grocery store with my step dad and we were coming out of the grocery store to our car and all of a sudden out of the blue comes a shopping cart and it almost hits our car. So, I ran really fast to grab the shopping cart and returned it back where it was suppose to be. I always put my shopping cart back to the shopping cart return and I always get a big thank you from the workers who are outside collecting the shopping carts since lots of people just leave their cart wherever they are parked.
I just loved the lesson today and I too have to ask for forgiveness for not obeying wholeheartedly and with enthusiasm. I had to laugh out loud when Wendy told us about calling someone you know you have to call and then hope that the answering machine will pick up. I am so guilty of doing the exact same thing. But slowly I am learning to follow through. I start to get more and more enthusiastic because it feels good to do something you know God has put on your heart to do. Even when I have my doubts about it or if I feel not so happy about it, God knows why I need to do certain things. And then, after following through with what He put on my mind… I feel so good. Not good in a way like “look what I have done!!”, but good in a way that I feel filled with joy and peace and also more confidence to carry out my next “assignment”. …
My Takeaways: Moses is finished reviewing the laws- special altars are made, curses and blessings are discussed.
Something Old: I am so glad that I have Jesus Christ today. I know longer have to worry about the old covenant relationship with God. I don’t have to expect to be blessed because of my obedience but because of my position in Jesus. The curse I deserved was laid upon Him.Though there may still be a curse of consequences in my disobedience, under the New Covenant, He does not punish me or curse me – because all that I deserved, past, present, and future, was poured out upon Jesus. I must always rejoice in the promises God has given me in the New Covenant.
Something New: Not much new here but lots of repeating. This new generation had to know. Moses has to remind them that obedience is of the utmost importance. Deuteronomy 26:16 NKJV “…therefore you should be careful to observe them (statues and judgements) with all your heart and with all your soul.” Obedience didn’t make the person righteous before God it was just a part of a loving response to God’s gracious Covenant. A command to the whole person to respond fully to God.
Something To Do: Realize the importance of obeying God. By being obedient I will experience the fullness of his blessings when he establishes the new Heaven and a new Earth. When I decided to believe in God I also decided to follow his ways. My ways must show others the love I have for my father.
