A Must Have
When he sits on the throne as king, he must copy for himself this body of instruction on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives.
Deuteronomy 17:18-19a
My Takeaways
Something Old
Instructions for the king and me:
- Keep a copy of the Word with him always
- Read the Word daily
* It will teach us to fear the Lord, which will lead to obedience.
* It will keep us humble.
* It will help us to walk in obedience.
Something New
Something to Do
Be in the Word every day.
Great reminder!
Something to do
Read my Bible everyday.
My Takeaways: Lots of reading today, Moses continues to let the people know of God’s expectations and how important it is that they live them out.
Something Old: I love, love, love Deuteronomy 17:18-20. The King’s wisdom came through the knowledge of the word. The same way we can grow in wisdom today. It’s so easy to have access to the word today, what’s stopping me from totally indulging myself in it? Hopefully nothing. The only way I know who God is and what He wants from me is through his word. The only way His word is going to impact my life is when I read it, and live it out. Now is the time to put that truth into action.
Something New: Deuteronomy 18:15 “Moses continued, the Lord your God will rise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites, you must listen to Him.” This phophet could be be non other then Jesus Christ Himself. God had a plan from the very beginning and he continues to keep his promise of that original plan. Jesus Christ is the last of the great prophets. His words are true. When He died he reminded us that it was finished. Everything had been done. He revealed everything to us through the life. He lived and gave me his word, there is nothing more to know. I have had the chance to see God’s glory in Christ. I know Jesus. I have received forgiveness of sins in Him. God sent his Holy Spirit to live in me. I possess a fulness of God’s grace – no Old Testament prophet, can claim that. What a blessing that God’s original plan still holds true today. Jesus is coming back- His words are true. I can rest assured that He is coming back to claim me as his own, Hallelujah!
Something To Do: Prepare my heart to receive God’s instruction. Learn all I can, while I can. Keep in the word daily. Pray without ceasing. Do what Jesus has asked me to do.
