Stopping Short

But we do not claim any of the land on the other side of the Jordan. We would rather live here on the east side and accept this as our grant of land.
Numbers 32:19

My Takeaways

Something Old

The east may be beautiful.

The east may be beneficial.

The east is not God’s best…. We stop short.

We stop short of where God wants us to go because:

  • We are tired.
  • We have sinned.
  • We don’t believe it will really happen.

Something New

They were not only choosing “less than” for themselves, they were choosing “less than” for their descendants.
Numbers 32:33 (v34,37,39)

What have I missed, because I haven’t obeyed God wholeheartedly?

Something to Do

Don’t stop short no matter how beautiful the east side may be.

  1. Wendy,
    Awesome perspective!
God does not want us to settle for less than his best, that he has promised us!
I cringe when I think of the many times I just want to say or have said this is okay, good enough or alright. In my simple way of “limiting” God. Instead of fully acknowledging and embracing that he is El Shaddai! He has a plan and purpose for our lives that we with our limited thinking and “limit lens” cannot fully comprehend unless we lean totally on him. I believe the Holy Spirit will lead and guide us to that truth if we allow him.
    Something to do
Don’t stop short. Go forward with God.

  2. I wonder…….
    God’s best …
    So quick to just settle…..
    When given a test!

    Lord help us to see…..
    What all we could be….
As we keep our vertical focus….
…and keep in step with Thee!

    God’s best is our desire…
Until we have to go through the fire..
…then we lose heart and soul….
Often because we are so tired!

V is for victory dear Lord…
…our hope and trust is in thee….
..oh, if only we could remember…
Our battles are won on our knees!

Have a great weekend RTW Friends.

  3. Todays reading and teaching was an answer to u spoken prayer…God does know the desire of my heart. I was speaking to my husband, before picking up my Bible today, about my inconsistancy with reading and asking him to hive me gentle reminders. I do think it ties in with the feeling of being unworthy. Thank you, Wendy, for reminding me that God wants His best for me.

  4. So True! Walking in BIG FAITH today! This lesson encouraged me. My business is a service business and it feels like a roller coaster. One day I’m pumped and excited, the next I feel like quitting. I’m climbing that mountain to the other side…just over the ridge is the promise land. 😉

  5. Thank you for this lesson Wendy! It was spot on for me (personally), and it also provided insight into why someone close to me has stopped short … the lesson reinforced to me that I must not stop short in praying for him so that he reaches for God’s best for him.

And, Ladies, thank you for your comments.

  6. I am behind feb 18, my eyesight has become poor because of diabetes so it causes me great eye strain to read the large print bible. I have been searching for the one year chronological Bible NLT in audio. I don’t want cd or MP3. I saw that if I have the kindle app on my iPad I can get that,
If you know any thing about chronological audio please comment. It’s very import, I have the regular bible on audio but it is to difficult I loose my train of thought. Thanks sisters in Christ

    1. I have the NLT One year chronological bible on CD. I got it from Amazon a few years ago. I just checked. They still have them. Just under $40.

  7. My Takeaways: Reuben, Gad and the halftime of Manasseh don’t want any of the land across the Jordan they want to settle Jazer and Gilead. They are stilling willing to fight though, Moses is angry with them. Moses keeps a journal of their travels. All set and ready to take possession of the land.

Something Old: Numbers 33:2 “At the Lord’s Direction, Moses kept a written record of their progress…” Moses was wise to record their journey. I too, like to write journals of my spiritual walk and read them years later. It helps me see how God answers my prayers and how much I have grown in my walk throughout the years.

Something New: Numbers 33:52 “… You must destroy all their carved and molten images and demolish all their pagan shrines.” God wanted the Israelites to start all over. They had to throw out the old way of living and bring in the new. Obeying and listening to God.

Something To Do: I need to get rid of my sinful ways and put all my faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Today is the day to get rid of all the ugliness in my life and start new, just like the Israelites, a time to start all over again. Living the good life.
