Uncommon
Do not live according to the customs of the people I am diving out before you.
Leviticus 20:23a
My Takeaways
Something Old
Don’t be common. Don’t live like those around me-good or bad.
Something New
Wendy-
Do not bring shame on my holy name, for I will display holiness among the people of Israel. Leviticus 22:32a
- Set myself apart from the things of this world.
- Set myself apart from the people of this world.
- Set myself apart from the places of this world.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV) Romans 12:2
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (MSG) Romans 12:1-2
Something to Do
Live an uncommon life.
It is hard to be uncommon but God made me and wants me to be unique. I should reflect Him and the way He made me to others. Since I am fearfully and wonderfully made, let us live that promise out each and everyday!
I pulled out my First5 Experience Guide from when we studied and read Leviticus and Hebrews. I looked over the titles of Lev. 20-22 in the Experience Guide: Leviticus 20– Be Holy!, Lev. 21–A Dedicated Calling, Lev.22–A Worthy Offering. Wendy Pope actually did the teaching for Leviticus 22.
I have to say that I love the concept of being Uncommon in this Common world. I loved this lesson!!! It seems that in a world of “commonness,” I know that I am blessed to have God’s faithfulness, mercy, and grace extended to me as we live in this world.

Am I living out God’s words enough so people who don’t read the Bible, can see those truths in me? I must remember that I am separated from this world and am separated to God. Does my life show it? How are my actions different from the unbelievers? Do people know I’m a Christian? Like the Prodigal Son, I must act on the the knowledge I have. I have to crawl out of the pigpen and start down the road toward my father, my home. When i have a change mind it results in a change of direction, the Holy Spirit will direct me and people will notice.
