The Perfect Sacrifice

If the animal you present as a burnt offering is from the herd, it must be a male with no defects.
Leviticus 1:3a

My Takeaways

Something Old

He who was without sin became sin, so that I might become the righteousness of God.

Something New

Romans 5:18 tells us, “Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.

  • We aren’t perfect, and never will be; but we can perfectly present ourselves to Christ, mind, body, soul, and spirit.
  • We aren’t without sin, and never will be; but we can do our best to live sinless by submitting to the Holy Spirit to avoid the snare of sin.
  • We are right with God, and always will be, because of the sinless, perfect, and blemish-free sacrifice of Jesus. I should live like I am right with God by symbolically placing my life on the altar of sacrifice each day.

Something to Do

Climb on the altar each day, and watch God work.

  1. My Takeaways:
So the tabernacle is complete, now God wants to take time out to teach the Israelite a whole new way of life. They were in Eygpt a long time. God needs to bring them back to him.

    Something Old:
(Leviticus 1-3) The Sacrifices or an offering- Burnt sacrifice: This was given on a voluntary basis. It showed the devotion they had to God. It was a way to seek forgiveness from their sins. This was preparing the way for Christ’s death the perfect sacrifice.
Grain sacrifice: this too was volunteered to show honor and respect to God in worship. The Israelites were acknowledging that everything they had belonged to God. Jesus Christ was perfect. He had no blemish or defects.Christ gave all he was to God and us.
Peace Offering: This was voluntarily given to express their thankfulness to God for all He had done and was doing for them. This gave them peace and fellowship toward God. Today Jesus is the way.

    Something New:
Leviticus 2:11 “Do not use yeast in preparing any of the grain offerings you present to the Lord…”
The Israelites obviously weren’t rushing to leave, but they were acknowleding their sins. Yeast is like sins. Sins never effect just the sinner it seems to always spread out and hurt others just like yeast when it spreads through bread. It corrupts, so to speak, the whole loaf.

Something To Do: Evaluate my sins. How are they effecting others? Am I coming to Christ on a regular basis asking for forgiveness? Do I turn away from sin when it comes creeping at my door? Do I understand the seriousness of my sins? Jesus – the perfect lamb, sacrificed it all for me, at the Cross. What a wonderful Savior I have.

  2. I agree on the monotony of yesterday’s reading, but today it not only continues but another factor is added. Sorry, but I really got hung up on thoughts of all that blood being spilled and the stench it must have had. If any of you have ever been around blood and burning like that as I have (I used to work in a hospital ER), you will know what I am talking about. Wondering how those smells and the burnt offerings could be a pleasing aroma to God. That is my literal mind at work – reading it all literally. But thank you Wendy for bringing me back to the true lesson today of Jesus as the perfect sacrifice. And because of that, I can sacrifice my life to God. Amen !
