Perseverance In The PIT

Two full years later,…
Genesis 41:1a

My Takeaways

Something Old

Isn’t it amazing that even in the pit of despair, we can receive the favor and care from the Lord? Our time in the pit has purpose.  We just have to be patient enough to see it.

Joseph made the most of his time in the pit.  He continued to grow strong in his faith, and got on with life as best as he could.  Joseph wanted out, but making the best of a bad situation does not mean he gave up on a rescue.  He trusted God to work everything out for his good.

Personally Intense Trial (PIT) he experienced.

What if we saw our PIT as a reset rather than a setback?

Adjusting Our Perspective of a PIT

  • Adjustment #1: Believe God loves me even if my feelings tell me something else.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)
    Romans 5:8
  • Adjustment #2: Every PIT can beneficial.
…because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (NIV)
    James 1:3
  • Adjustment #3: God is never inactive.
My Father is always working, and so am I.” God the Father, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus are always at work.
     John 5:17

Something New

Joseph was an honorable, trustworthy man.  Pharaoh even gave him a wife of royal descent and the new name Zaphnath-Paaneah.  His new name means “preserver of life” and a “revealer of secrets.”

Something to Do

Thank God for the pits in my life.  I know Him better because of them.

  1. My Takeaways:
God is good all the time. All the time God is good.

    Something Old:
    Joseph interprets dreams

    Something New:
Joseph gives credit to God. He doesn’t try to make himself look good. Joseph was filled with the spirit of God and people recognize it.

Something To Do: Do I give credit to God when credit is due? Do others see the spirit of God through my actions, words, and advice? In every situation do I remember to serve God? Staying in a right relationship with God will give me the power to be ready for anything as Joseph was.
