TGFABT – Psalm 82
For Leaders and About Leaders
God presides in the great assembly; He renders judgment among the “gods.”
Psalm 82:1
Our application
A warning to those who lead, don’t take leadership to gain power. All power and authority belongs to God.
Our responsibility is to respect earthly authorities because they are God appointed.
God holds leaders accountable for their choices. He also holds us responsible for how we respond to them.
We should be concerned about social justice. “This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world” (James 1:27).
Truth Tuesday
Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 82?
My husband is one of my leaders.
Word Study Wednesday
V3 Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
V8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.
I find this interesting. The Hebrew word for defend is the same Hebrew word for judge. God wants our response to the weak and fatherless to be the same as His response to little gods.
Shaphat: (shaw-fat’)
- to rule, govern, judge
- to decide controversy (of God, man)
- to execute judgment
- discriminating (of man) vindicating, condemning and punishing
