Truth Tuesday
Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 81?
God does the same for me as He did for His beloved Israel.
“I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Psalm 81:6-7
Word Study Wednesday
“Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.”
Psalm 81:1
ranan: (raw-nan’) to give a ringing cry
- Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance
- To creak (or emit a stridulous sound)
- To shout (usually for joy) – Aloud for joy, cry out, be joyful (greatly, make to)
- Rejoice, (cause to) shout (for joy), (cause to) sing (aloud, for joy, out), triumph.
At my first glance of the word sing I said to myself, “Hmm? OK. So I sing to God for He is my strength.” This is not a problem for me. I love to sing!! I love to worship!! I love to move a little. But for many their singing to the Lord is not such a joyful noise. You know what I am saying?
Often the vocally challenged use their challengedness (I know I made that word up. It has an irritating wavy read line under it but I don’t care.) as an excuse not to sing and worship the God who gives them strength. In digging deeper into the word ranan I learned a new word that will remove any excuse the vocally challenged have for not singing and worshiping this Sunday. Are you ready?
Stridulous – making a harsh, shrill, or grating noise
I wish I could see the smile on your face and hear your snickers. The God of Jacob and the God of Wendy and the God of (fill in your name) does not care how you sound. Sing! Worship!
Even a harsh shrill grating noise is a beautiful harmony of praise to the receptive ears of our Savior. He inhabits the praise of His people, no matter how the people think the praise sounds.
Thankful Thursday
Journal: Tell God something that you are thankful for.
Today I am thankful for answered prayer. A prayer I had been praying for years.
Faith Stretching/Strengthening Friday
Journal: How is God stretching/strengthening your faith?
I experienced an answer to prayer, a long-time-coming prayer. This strengthened my faith to never stop praying.
