TGFABT – Psalm 58
Live for God
Then at last everyone will say, “There truly is a reward for those who live for God; surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth.”
Psalm 58:11 NLT
John 15: 1-4
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”
- Stay connected to God our Vine
Through prayer, praise, worship, and study
- Allow God to prune our branches
Even if it takes us from our comfort zones and securities.
Truth Tuesday
Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 58?
Live for God. Enough said.
Word Study Wednesday
“No, in your heart you devise injustice.” Psalm 58:1 (NIV)
“Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.” (KJV)
In your heart [inner man, mind, will] ye work [systemically and habitually, practice, commit, and make] wickedness [iniquity and unrighteousness]
It all starts with the heart, mind, and will. Our hearts must be right with God. We can keep our hearts right with God by doing the right things with all our heart. Jesus told us the right things in Mark 12:3-31, “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
If we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength our inner man will systematically and habitually do the right things. We will naturally act justly, love mercy, and walk with our God. And as a bonus, loving our neighbor will become natural.
Wow! Sounds simple huh? How do we love God? You might be like I was a few years ago and just don’t love God that much. You can do what I did. I asked Him to help me love Him that much. He answered that prayer. All I had to do was ask.
Answering such a prayer is His delight.
Thankful Thursday
Journal: Tell God something that you are thankful for.
I am thankful for God’s justice and for His long-suffering.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
Faith Stretching/Strengthening Friday
Journal: How is God stretching/strengthening your faith?
God is stretching me to keep my mouth shut about things that don’t really matter. Like we say in the south, “that don’t amount to a hill of beans.” Girls, this is a tough one. I want to shout. it. out. but He is saying let. it. go.
