TGFABT – Psalm 28

Something Happens in Prayer

“To you I call, O Lord my Rock…”
Psalm 28:1a

When I am not just going through the motions, something happens in prayer.

David

  • Asked God to pay attention to his prayer (V1-2a)
  • Postured himself for prayer (V2b)
  • Made his petitions known (V3)
  • Turned the results over to God (4)
  • Confidently knew God had heard his prayer (V6-7)

Something Happens in Prayer

  • Desperation turns to Confidence
  • Animosity turns to Peace

Sadness turns to Joy

Truth

“…as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.”
Psalm 28:2b

Get back to my prayer posture…not because it will make my prayers more effective but because He is always in His Holy Place, waiting to be with me and is worthy of my humility.

Word Study

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.” (NIV)
Psalm 28:6

Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.” (KJV)

~Gill’s Exposition of the Entire Bible

Blessed be the Lord,…. Which must be understood, not as invoking nor as conferring a blessing on him, neither of which can be done by a creature; nor does he stand in need of any, he being Elshaddai, God all sufficient, God over all, blessed for ever; but as ascribing all blessedness to him, congratulating his greatness and happiness, and giving him praise and glory for mercies received; and particularly for the following because he hath heard the voice of my supplications; what he had prayed for, Psalm 28:2; an answer was quickly returned, even while he was speaking.

I have to remember to bless the Lord when He answers my prayers.

Thankful

I am thankful God gently reminds us of things we need to work on.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening

  1. Great message about our posture during prayer time with God. I never gave this much thought but will now. I am sure my result will be much more fulfilling in my prayer life!

  2. Wow! Such a good message about our prayers this week! I love all the observations Wendy makes about David’s prayers. I especially loved the confidence he has that God hears his cry for mercy. I love when she talked about the importance of our posture. It is easy for me to get lazy with my prayers just like I can get lazy with my posture. When David postures himself for prayer he really prepares himself to spend time with the Lord. I agree with Wendy, I too can get very comfortable and not purpose to really focus on spending time on prayer. Great encouragment this week!

  3. Truth is I know I do not focus well enough in waiting to hear God I just want him to hear me. This is something I need to face and work on in my prayer life! Waiting to hear him.

  4. Prayer is something I struggle with. Wendy was encouraging and I appreciated how she looked at the Psalm from the beginning to the end. From complaining to comfort. I am behind this week but am looking forward to the study pages.

  5. Wonderful truth in the ebookstudy this week about prayer: The value of consistent prayer is not that He will hear us, but that we will hear Him. Love the reminder that the purpose of prayer is not to get what I want but to become who God wants me to be.

  6. Interesting insights in the word study this week when discussing blessing God. I have never thought what it means to say blessed be the Lord. Not sure I fully understand. For sure something to look into more deeply.

  7. Thankful for all my friends and family who are being treated for illnesses with today’s amazing doctor’s. God gave them the tools to heal!!! Amen
