TGFABT – Psalm 27
Talking Truths for the Edge of the Ledge
“I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
Psalm 27:13
I want to see the goodness of the LORD in the living, don’t you? Sometimes the “badness” of the world hides the goodness of the Lord.
The indecent, backstabbing, dishonest actions, attitudes, and people of the world push us to the edge of the ledge.
They push us to:
- Respond with ungodly responses rather than grace
- Make hasty decisions based on the immediate rather than the future
- Build barriers around our heart instead of seeking resolution
Talking Truths:
- Jesus our light and our salvation and I have nothing to fear. (V1)
- When evil advances against me I will be confident. (V2-3)
- In the day of trouble, He will keep me safe. (V5)
- He will exalt me over my enemies. (V6)
Romans 8:7-8 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
This is so because the corrupt nature has a hostile attitude toward God. It refuses to place itself under the authority of God’s standards because it can’t. Those who are under the control of the corrupt nature can’t please God.
Truth Tuesday
“I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (V13)
I want to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. I don’t want to see hate, jealousy, prejudice, and greed. Help me see the Your goodness Lord.
Word Study
I have mentioned once or twice that waiting is not one of my virtues. But I have learned, through experience: waiting isn’t all bad, especially when we are waiting on the Lord’s plans.
David tells us waiting makes us strong.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (V14)
“Wait on the LORD be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart wait I say on the LORD.”(KJV)
Strengthen (amats (aw-mats’) Strong’s 553)
alert, strong, brave, assure, exhibit strength, feel strong.
Waiting will make us:
- alert when we feel weary
- strong when we feel weak
- brave when we feel afraid
- assured when we have lost confidence
- exhibit strengthen when we feel like hiding
We can see whatever it, it is worth waiting for…
Thankful Thursday
I am thankful for time with my family and a wonderful country to call home. I am thankful everyone who sacrificed their life so I can be an American.
Faith Stretching/Strengthening
I am so happy that God is patient with me. Help me Lord to be as graceful with others as You are with me.
Loved the video message this week! I especially loved verses 13 and 14. We can be confident in the midst of difficulties and trials that God will see us through it! So important to be confident that God is Sovereign and His plans are perfect. Waiting is good for us. I love what my notes say: Make good use of your waiting times by discovering what God may be trying to teach yo in them.
Nancy, very good points you and Wendy both make. I know when I have felt the weight of the world on my shoulders I had to dig deep into my faith talking myself out of leaping off the edge and ask God to help me turn negatives into positives. Couldn’t and wouldn’t want to face this world we live in with him.
As we are well aware our world is way to full of dishonesty, corruption, evil, and naysayers. But it is also full of wonderful people whom truly represent God’s chosen ones. Those people who are willing to help, who are willing to teach, and love without purpose. I am so grateful the Lord’s light shines on these chosen ones so that they stand out in a crowd easy for me to identify.
When I am in fear of falling off the ledge, it so good to know that my toolbox of things to save me include God and his people I know I can rely on.
Today’s truth is in times of trouble it is not Mother Mary who comes to me… My truth is in times of trouble I RUN to God where I seek his words of wisdom and comfort.
Truth for today: God is my light and stronghold. I can be confident and not fear. So reassuring!
Great Word study this week. David finishes the Psalm with an emphasis on waiting by repeating it twice in verse 14. Waiting is hard!
I keep getting drawn back to verse 4. David’s highest priority …the One thing he asked of the Lord… was to live in God’s presence now, not just in eternity. And then I love in 8, David says he will seek God’s face. Such a good reminder…it’s not enough to desire to be in God’s presence. In order to be in His presence, I need to continually seek His face.
Seeking and waiting equals patience. God is patient with me and I will wait for all the goodness he provides as he is my light in times of darkness. The word light just makes me smile. Have a great Wednesday!
I am thankful for God’s faithfulness. Verse 10 reminds us everyone may forsake us but God will always remain with us and for us. .
I am thankful that I am in God’s light and love always!
I am thankful for my eyes to be able read Gods book, my ears to hear praise songs and the fact that he will never neglect me!
Crazy busy week along with the fact my computer had a virus and I was up one evening till 2am with so many thoughts and continued prayer for God to speak to me and give me direction. I had been reading Psalm 26 this week and had to smile when I was able to get on my computer and return to the study to find out I should be on Psalm 27. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Wow, he could not be speaking any clearer or louder. Love these moments when scripture speaks directly to you. I suppose I stood on the edge of the ledge this week and rejoice that we have the word to comfort and guide us.
I love verse 13 – Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living. It reminds us to look for God’s love in the midst of all the corruption of this world. It gives us hope while we are still on earth!
Happy Labor Day weekend to all of you!
Thank you so much for this, Wendy. The things that you mentioned have been very hard for my family and me also. Thank you for the encouragement and for pointing out these truths in the Psalm. Applies in the current day as well!
