TGFABT – Psalm 20

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7

I trust in

  • My means (chariots)
  • My strength (horses)
  • My ways (planning for victory/battle)
  • My ideas (planning for victory/battle)
  • Others’ opinions (stopped trusting my own)

How are you doing with our Psalm 19:14 month long assignment?

Pray verse 14
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing  in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Truth Tuesday

Don’t trust in my chariots and horses.

Word Study

Psalm 20:5
“We will shout for joy…”

Shout is the Hebrew word ranan  (raw-nan’).  It means to be overcome; to cry out, shout for joy, give a ringing cry; to give a ringing cry.

I can honestly say when God rescues and delivers me I am overcome.  I also can say I want my response to always be a ringing cry for all to hear;  a ringing cry for all to hear not just for God to hear.

I loved this by Matthew Henry in response to 20:8, our key verse for Message Monday:
“Those who make God and His Name their praise may make God and His Name their trust.”

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful God continues to give me an opportunity to grow in His truths.  He does not give up on me when I fail.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening

He is stretching me in the area of my selfish heart. Stretching is painful but the strength that comes from the stretching is incredible.  I so appreciate God’s great grace and long-suffering for a sinner like me.

  1. This is a good Psalm to reflect on how many times I go to others first with my problems instead of going to God. I need to work harder on this.

  2. As I sit on my back patio I am still thinking of Psalm 19 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. I look up and am continually amazed at all creation. With this in mind and the encouragement of Wendy, how can I not rely completely on God alone?

  3. I too am reminded to call out to God when in times of trouble. I guess I’ve always thought it was my duty to handle the issues that pop up. But I now know that God is not only my Savior, but my best friend, my rock, and my fortress!

  4. I love the use of the word “know” in verse 6: Now I KNOW the Lord saves His annointed. To know is to be sure. There is a security in knowing no matter what we have the Lord on our side.

  5. Nancy, I agree with your KNOW statement. Even when I think that things aren’t going the way I think they should and then I realize that they truly are going the way they SHOULD it reminds me that God is in Control when I allow him to work in my life.

  6. Thankful for my sister who follows the same thought process of a Godly life and who helps me keep my focus on Him!

    1. It is truly a blessing to have someone come alongside us who loves the Lord and points us to Him…what an added blessing for this to be your sister!
