TGFABT – Psalm 15

Dwelling Not Moving

He who does these things will never be shaken.”
Psalm 15:5b

Shaken is defined as moved in the original Hebrew.

Who Can Dwell and Will Not Be Moved?

He/She:

  • whose walk is blameless
  • who does what is righteous
  • who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue
  • who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman
  • who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the LORD
  • who keeps his oath even when it hurts
  • who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent

 In Simple Terms
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”
Luke 10:27

We might say that under the Old Covenant a righteous walk was the precondition for fellowship with God; under the New Covenant a righteous walk is the result of fellowship with God, founded on faith. (Guzik)

Truth

Live my life as not to be moved or shaken from the presence of God.  Live with gratitude that I have complete access to God through the Holy Spirit.

Word Study

I will be honest with you girls, tying in the word moved  and the last verse with David’s questions in verse 1 has rattled me.  I do not want to moved from the Presence of God because of my actions.  I never really even thought of  the items on David’s checklist as possible movers from His Presence.  I think of BIG sins moving me from the Presence of God.  The way David writes these items, these don’t really even sound like sins, well BIG sins anyway.

The word moved is mowt (mote) in the original Hebrew.  It means:
be carried, cast, be out of course, be fallen in decay, exceedingly fall(ing) down, be (re)moved

None of these sound like good options to me, especially the decay part (yuk). I want to be earnest in my effort to stay, abide, sojourn, or dwell in the Presence of God.  I don’t want to be separated from His Presence at all.  Such a thought makes me shudder!

Thankful

I am thankful for my daughter’s friends.  God has blessed her and it blesses me.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening

He holds time in His hands…. enough said.  Sigh….  Thank you God for all you do to order my life.  Forgive me for messing it up by running ahead or being anxious.

  1. I too was enlightened by the thought of losing Gods grace by not following David’s suggestions. Very eye opening. I too thought following the Ten Commandments was what mattered. Makes lots of sense though.
I feel I tend to be gossipy or slanderous when speaking of or seeing a picture of an ex family member that really hurt our family. I do pray for her as well but obviously I need to hold my tongue.
May you all have a wonderful week and have peace in your life!

  2. I like that at the end Wendy says that what we do is what can keep us from God’s presence. It’s not what God does, but what we do. I am glad that is made clear at the end of the video. All of these things are a result of our relationship with God. Of course we are never going to be perfect, but if we aim to live out our faith perfectly and confess when we fail, God will stay close and we will not be shaken.

  3. I had no internet today therefore just listened to the video. I know that walking the walk and talking the talk by doing what is right is the only path I try to follow. Not always easy!!! No I am not perfect but I have a perfect God who forgives me. I have grown in areas of holding my tongue and forgiving as I say God forgives all my sins I need to do the same. Treat others as I want to be treated. Keeps me from being shaken. Goodnight!

  4. I appreciate when scripture so clearly states what we are to do to walk closely with Christ. It will be good to read this Psalm every day!

  5. I am glad to know that the Holy Spirit is available to me when I am to blame in various situations and can come and ask for forgiveness. Cannot imagine living a life not believing in God.

  6. I think my favorite part of Wendy’s video this week was when she pulled out her old Children’s Bible. She is so right, sometimes the simplest ways to state God’s truths are the best. I wish that I still had that child-like faith that we so crave. Children just believe. They don’t doubt the love that God has once they have found it. They just trust him. Lord, help me find that kind of faith again! I so appreciated Wendy pointing out that blameless does not mean perfect. I always thought of the word blameless as a synonym for perfect – something I would never ever achieve. Looking at blameless as having integrity changes that drastically for me.

Truth Tuesday – My truth for today is that I don’t have to be perfect in God’s eyes to be blameless. I just need to live with integrity and honesty and not be moved from God’s presence.

  7. My truth for today is to remember that I need to confess more. Much better at praise and thanksgiving and supplication ….I loved Acts 3:19 in the e-book study. When we humble our hearts and repent and turn to God, He not only wipes out our sins, but provides times of refreshing. Love that!

  8. I agree with Wendy. Moved described in this lesson is not what I want in my relationship with God unless I move closer to him, all in a positive direction.

    1. I agree Vicki! Nothing better than knowing God’s Presence is with us. I over the word study this week. Great reminder to confess continually.

  9. Thankful for friends who are willing to speak truth to me and help me grow in my walk with the Lord.

  10. I am thankful that my earthly Father taught me so many useful things during my growing up years!

  11. I am very thankful for my parents giving me a good foundation to build upon my life wife God!
