TGFABT – Psalm 16

LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;  you have made my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant
places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.

Psalm 16:5-6

My lot:

  • Is assigned only for me, especially for me
  • Secure
  • Has pleasant boundaries that are good for me
  • Provides a delightful inheritance for me

Truth

I love that our God counsels us while we sleep.

Word Study

Oh my goodness gracious, this just too delicious!!!!

Psalm 16:8
“I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand,  I will not be shaken.” (NIV)

Now in KJV

“I have set the LORD always before me because he is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”

Does this ring any bells?

Last week?  Our study of Psalm 15?  Verse 5?  The word shaken in 15:5 is the same shaken in 16:8.

The word moved is mowt (mote) in the original Hebrew.  It means:
be carried, cast, be out of course, be fallen in decay, exceedingly fall(ing) down, be (re)moved

All we need to do is keep the LORD before us.  I can’t think of anyone better to keep before me.  Our LORD is a GREAT leader!!!  When He leads we will never be off course or fall down.

I LOVE how God’s Word is woven together.

Thankful

I am thankful my family is traveling with me to Gulf Shores, AL.  Teaching women about Jesus and having my family with surrounding by God’s beauty, a girl could not ask for more.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening

God is stretching me as I watch others inside boundaries I think I want to be.  He is reminding me I am right where I am supposed to me.

Life inside the pleasant places is challenging.  We know the boundaries are God’s portion assigned just for us but watching others seemingly have it all is hard.  I have to constantly make my thoughts obedient to what the Lord has told me about His plan for me.

  1. I am glad to hear Wendy say that it is OK to say no to situations because God is guiding our lives along. Sometimes I over exert myself thinking I have to do certain things because of the person asking. I know God is speaking to me saying it is OK TO SAY NO especially when I need a break. He is that little voice in my head and the feeling in my gut that guides me to do what is right for him and myself. Thank you God!

  2. My mom has said so many times “bloom where you are planted”. I felt as though todays lesson assured me of this and that we are here (PCC) for a reason. Everything we do in a day is important so do it all for God’s glory both in attitude and effort.

    1. Great advice from you mom…this is a mindset and attitude. Love that! And you do a great job following that advice! : )

  3. Through all my trials I remember Nancy teaching us that these are seasons in our lives. God gave me the ability to persevere and increase my faith in him during these seasons.
Karen I love your mom’s statement, Bloom where you are planted!

  4. Hi ladies! I was happy to hear this statement Wendy made; “our eternity or inheritance begins the day we say yes and accept God!”
Truth is…I was also somewhat ashamed that I cannot remember that specific date. I can remember all other important anniversaries, birthdays etc but not the one that matters the most. :'(
It also amazes me that all my good common sense decisions come from God’s protection and his will.
    Enjoy your day ladies!

    1. Kim, this was my truth today too. I love that she helps us see eternity begins when we say yes to a relathionship with Christ. I do not have the exact date either but clearly remember when I went down front at my Baptist church growing up and accepted Him as my Savior. Apart from Him we have no good thing. He is all we need. And if we seek Him instead of running after false gods we will experience all He has for us here and in heaven.

  5. There is soooooo much in this Psalm!!!! We could spend a whole week on each verse! I love verse 11. In adversity we should respond:
    *with a glad heart
    *praise Him
    *rest secure

  6. You ladies are really amazing! Sometimes I get as much from the things you share as the lesson itself. Thank you for your insights.

  7. Moved is a great word! I cannot even imagine turning away from God and not having him lead me down the right path to eternity! What a great thought during such a dreary, rainy week with peaks of sun! God is good all the time!

  8. Thankful Thursday! My nephew is turning his life around in such big ways. My prayers for this have been answered. I thank God for being with him and guiding him even though he has turned from him recently.

  9. Word study Wednesday: so often I look at what the Lord WILL do when I look at the Psalms. What I love about this Psalm is David’s confident and sure words and especially his firm stand on what He will do. In verse 7 he says: I will praise the Lord. In verse 8 he says: I have set the Lord before me. IN verse 8 he says: I will not be shaken, In verse 9 he says I will rest secure. David is not focusing on his circumstances but the choices he makes to make God His refuge in verse 1. As a result of that choice, he makes the choices above to continue to focus on God and not his circumstances. Love it!

  10. Thankful to have the opportunity to spend next week with my husband on a cruise celebrating 30 years that we have been so blessed to share. So thankful God gave me him. I am blessed!

  11. Faith stretching: it is so easy to get caught up in putting other things in front of God. This Psalm reminds me again to continually reflect and put God first and be careful not to allow false gods to creep in.

  12. Once again, I sit and read a Psalm while I wait for more medical testing. Psalm 16 is perfect! It calms me to know that I’m going through what God assigns for me. Even if it isn’t what I would choose myself! And it’s good to hear, once again, that He is right beside me. Thank you, God, for your truth!
