TGFABT – Psalm 7
“My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.”
Psalm 7:10
A shield is a type of personal armor, meant to intercept attacks, either by stopping projectiles such as arrows or redirecting a hit.
We don’t have to nor should we waste our energies arguing with a Pharisee.
It is our responsibility to present clear and accurate facts concerning our case then let it go.
When dealing with the Cush in our life we:
- Ask God for deliverance from the situation or the grace to go through it (V1).
- Ask God to help us search our hearts for any truth in what is being said (V3), if there is truth, confess it to God and make it right with those involved. If not, give it to God and move on.
- Ask God to teach us something from this situation. (How can it help us grow as a person and in our relationship with Him?)
- Ask God to help us rest in His defense and restoration. (v10)
- Thank God for His resolution of the situation
Truth
God expresses His wrath every day. He sees all the injustice and executes His judgment in His time and His way.
Word Study
Psalm 7:1 (KJV)
O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust, save me from all them that persecute me and deliver me.
I love that the word refuge is translated as trust in the KJV. It the Hebrew word (Chacah) khaw-saw‘ and means to seek refuge, flee for protection, to put trust in God, confide or hope in God.
Trusting in God is a more than faith. It is our protection, safety, and hope.
I love what Lynne shared about Ephesian 4:29.
T – is it true?
H – is it helpful?
I – is it inspiring?
N – is it necessary?
K – is it kind?
Thankful
I am thankful for finding a nice honest painter to paint our new house.
Faith Stretching/Strengthening
My faith continues to be stretched and this week encouraged as I watch one I love struggle. In little ways God makes Himself known. I love how He cares so much for His children.
Message Monday- I loved Wendy’s message today regarding how we should respond to criticism/personal attacks. I especially loved her insight on verse 3. We should ask God to help us see if there is any truth at all in the criticsm. So much wisdom in that. It is so easy to become defensive when criticized. It is hard to have a humble, reflective heart!
Good morning girls, what a beautiful lesson today. There are times I read through a Psalm and wonder what I can learn from it. Wendy has the gift of making each one apply to my life. What an encouragement today. I pray each of us can direct our passions in a positive way that honors God. God has given us a set number of days and I want to live mine to the fullest trusting God as my shield.
Amen!! : )
I too enjoyed the wake up call in this message. Too often I am defensive to criticism either knowing it isn’t true or not admitting or searching my heart to see if it is true and asking God for correction.
The statement made that stuck out to me was “get over it or die mad! I watch so many family members teach me to hold grudges for a lifetime and they died angry. I want God to protect me and guide me down another path and use him as my shield from the untruths and to face what is true and correct it.
Have a great day!
Vicki
Vicki,
That was a great comment she made. And so true. We do have a choice. I just love the insight she shares!
Today is the start of a new week. A week where hopefully our slate is clean. Let us go forth and with God’s help have a great week to share ourselves with others, repair any damage done. We can live life secure knowing full well the power of our Lord and the love he has for us!
It’s such a great feeling to know that with God as my shield and a Christ who “has my back” I am protected on all sides!
A wonderful message today! I just love the thought of the Lord being my personal armor redirecting hits and protecting me. I can so many times get in his way, however. I like that Wendy pointed out that we are not meant to take the brunt of an attack, the Lord is there to protect us if we let him! God is so good!
That is such a great picture, Tara!!!
So many good thoughts as I re- read the Psalm this morning:
Ask the Lord to help me see truth in criticism.
God is the judge, not me.
God knows us intimately …our minds and hearts.
God is my shield.
Psalm 7:14 But look how the wicked hatch evil, conceive trouble, give birth to lies!
This verse really made me think today. I am not the type of person that would start rumors, but truth be told is I have certainly shared information I recieved that I didn’t really know if it was true over the years. Which is every bit as harmful and evil.
I pray that God will make me aware of when I might be lead astray.
I missed it Kim! So glad you took note and share with us!!! This really is a truth to search our hearts about! Thanks for sharing!
Truth Tuesday for me is that God will take care of those that hurt me as he protects me with his shield of armor. I do not have to participate in unkind conversations or take to heart hurtful things people do or say. We see an awful lot of evil on the news and it makes me think at times, where is God in all of this. I need to remember too that he takes care of those things in his own way. Someone in my family is being so unfairly treated by her sister and it is so hurtful for me to watch when I cannot do anything about it. I pray that God will touch her heart so she can show kindness to her and stop this mean-spirited treatment.
Love the word study today reminding me that we have a God we can confide in and take refuge in!
Thankful to God’s love and correction and for the people in my life.
I’m so thankful for my friend Lynn, who shares daily God’s word with me! Here is her message from today.
I heard about a book today, Author: Janet Pope, with suggestions and tips on memorizing scripture. Now, if you are like me and have a lot of difficulty keeping anything in your mind beyond the moment!!!! this interview with the author does cause me to at least recommend that you take a look at it and see if it might help you.
I know I am going to review it and try to put into practice the practical suggestions she spoke of for hiding God’s word in my heart!!!!!
We all know that the literacy of the Bible in these days is so poor that pastor’s don’t even encourage their congregations to work on this! but the word of God tells us that if we seek him, we shall find him and to seek him with our whole heart. Psalm 119:11
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee
Here is a verse I learned a long time ago, but my efforts to hide the word in my heart have been little and perhaps with the idea of hiding the words of a chapter in context without worrying about references will improve the content of my heart! That is what she suggests as one possible way to help in your memorization efforts.
Here is the reason : God draws close to us when we draw or seek to be close to him. We can become so much better acquainted with our Lord and Savior by learning his thoughts and desires for us, the word of God was given to us as a gift! We can use it to know the author, the God of the Universe!
When you have a good friend, you know you have spent time with them, you understand them, you love them and want to be with them more. It is the same with our relationship to Jesus. If you want to really know him, not your own version of him, you have to spend time with him, you have to learn his ways for they are not our ways. You need not take on any overwhelming task! A verse a day say in Phillippians 4, in context you will have some solid verses to help you through any terrible trial or long term suffering! 23 verses, A lifetime of comfort!!!!!!
There are times in our lives when we feel assailed by others. When we are disappointed in someone we feel we are close to and can trust. What we need to remember and hold dear is God is always the one we can trust, and there are lessons to be learned in all situations of our lives, whether good or bad. Trust in the Lord.
Thankful that God is a faithful shelter.
Good evening, ladies! It has been a busy week for me and I am getting caught up on the lessons tonight.
Truth Tuesday – The things that I watch, listen to, and read come out of my mouth. “For out of the overflow of his heart is mouth speaks.” Just as I need to eat right things to stay healthy, the things that I put in my heart and head eventually come out in my words, for good or for bad.
Word Study Wednesday – I really enjoyed the word study this week. I had never seen the words trust and refuge used interchangeably. What a cool way to think of trust! Running to the Lord because I know he can take care of all my problems! I also liked the THINK acrostic, it is an easy reminder for me to pay attention to my words.
Thankful Thursday – I am thankful today for God’s Word. It is a great source of comfort to me in hard times.
God is stretching me to ask if I have any fault in situations. This was a great part of the verse this week!
