When the “I” Shouts

“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Luke 14:11

My Takeaways

Something Old

I’m in the pasture with my Shepherd. Who has jumped the fence to influence my thoughts and distract me from the Shepherd?

Something New

“Humility not as thinking less of ourselves, but as thinking of ourselves less.” –  C.S. Lewis

Pride is an invitation to God’s opposition.

But he gives more grace. Therefore, it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

The “I” in pride will shout by:

  • Our motives when we are asked to participate in something.
  • Our response to offense.
  • Our response to praise.
  • Our attitude when given an assignment.

“Those whose gaze is locked firmly on eternity find it easier to embrace humility on earth.”  – Unknown

Something to Do

Submit to the “humble lessons.” Submission is easier and more pleasant than stumbling over myself.
