Return To The One Who Turns Us

Restore us, O LORD, and bring us back to you again!
Lamentations 5:21a

My Takeaways

Something Old

I love this truth.

But LORD, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation. Lamentations 5:19

Jeremiah was writing about you and me. Generation to generation includes me and all those coming behind me. What great comfort and hope this brings to my soul.

Something New

Before He can restore, rebuild, and renew we have to return to Him.

God’s turning back tools:

  • His Spirit
  • His Word
  • Pastors/Speakers
  • Discipline
  • Others

We have two responses: turn toward Him or from Him.

He turns us; we return to Him with complete repentance, never turning back from Him again. He restores, rebuilds, and renews.

Something to Do

Praise Him for the turning back tools.

  1. “You stood aloof, refusing to help them” Obadiah 1:11(b) Guzik’s commentary says this: “Sometimes doing nothing is a great sin” Sin is progressive … they started with doing nothing and ended up joining in on the attack (1:14). Sin, left unchecked, unconfessed and unrepented of leads to even greater sin. It is progressive. But so is God’s grace and mercy.

What do I do when I see injustice? When I hear someone gossiping or blatantly being cruel to another person? Do I stand aloof and do nothing – or do I step in and defend the victim? My silence is only the beginning of greater sin.

    Doing nothing is sin.
Something to Do: DO SOMETHING! Lord, help me to DO SOMETHING today.
