He Is El Roi Afterall

He reached out what seemed to be a hand and took me by the hair. Then the Spirit lifted me up into the sky and transported me to Jerusalem in a vision from God. I was taken to the north gate of the inner courtyard of the Temple, where there is a large idol that has made the LORD very jealous.
Ezekiel 8:3

My Takeaways

Something Old

He is the God who sees, El Roi. He sees the distraught and downtrodden, but He also sees the deceitful and disobedient.

Idols are

  • Seen by God (Ezekiel 8:3, 12) Even in the dark rooms
  • Stir jealousy in God (Ezekiel 8:3)
  • Send God away (Ezekiel 8:6)

Do I have any idols?

Do I bring idols in the house of the Lord?

Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong— then guide me on the road to eternal life. (MSG) Psalm 139:24-25

Something New

Ezekiel had a home. The leaders of Judah were in his home. (Ezekiel 8:1)

Something to Do

Demolish the idols in my life
