A New Covenant

“But this is the new covenant, I will make with the people of Israel on that day,” says the LORD.
Jeremiah 31:33a

 

 

My Takeaways

Something Old

God’s discipline doesn’t mean He doesn’t love; it means He does love. (Jeremiah 31:20)

Something New

The new covenant in Jeremiah 31 is a prophetic word about the future. We are benefactors of this new covenant because of Jesus. (Romans 11:17)

The new covenant

• Full of freedom, not bondage to a law too hard to keep
• Extends grace, mercy, and forgiveness, not punishment and captivity.
• Worships one King, not many kings
• Provides an internal helper, not life with a moral compass
• Ends in life, not death
• Seals us until the day of redemption
