When Everyone Else Lets You Down

My Takeaways

Something Old

The only thing we can count on in this world is the Lord.

Everyone… everyone will let us down.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him.” (NIV) Lamentations 3:22-24

Maybe David recalled some of his own words for encouragement:

  • Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. (NIV) Psalm 9:10
  • Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. (NIV) Psalm 20:7
  • But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.” (NIV) Psalm 31:14
  • When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. (NIV) Psalm 56:3

Remained loyal to the One (v31) worshiped the Lord

Something New

Absalom was a true politician at work, campaigning for himself while discrediting the current administration. He was an elitist who thought the laws didn’t apply to him because he got away with murder, yet he tried to appeal to the “common” man.

  1. I’ve been struggling with getting my own nuggets lately – but boy, do Wendy’s lessons give me just what I need! Praise God for his perfect provision!

    “All David had was his trust in God” – This was enough. God was all he NEEDED. He is all I need – and yet I continue to place my trust in chariots & horses – people, places and things will always let me down. They will never fulfill the longing that has been placed deep in my heart BY GOD for more of Him. And yet I still seek those things – approval from others, thinking my life would be better or I would have more peace & contentment if I had this job, or that dress or whatever – but it is Jesus, only Jesus.

    To Do: Learn to trust God more. Easier said than done for me 🙁

    1. You are not alone I this struggle! Trusting and finding contentment alone in Jesus can be hard for me also. He is so faithful though as I figure things out!

      1. Great is His faithfulness! Loved the verses Wendy gave us today. They are on an index card for me to carry this week.

      2. You are definitely not alone Mary. Although what we know is true, it’s still very hard to live out consistently. I loved today’s lesson. He is so faithful. I have found that He is my rest. I find myself wanting to be even closer than just falling at his feet, I want to crawl up on his lap and let him hold me.

  2. Thank you Father, the King of my heart, that you will never let me down. Thank you for holding onto me and being my sufficiency in everything. Thank you that I can trust you, that you will never leave me, hurt me, get tired of me, get annoyed by me or not want me. You are the only thing in my life that I can truly depend on without a doubt or question. Thank you that you are a Good Father. I love you.
