Exhausted But Never Alone

Gideon then crossed the Jordan River with his 300 men, and though exhausted, they continued to chase the enemy.
Judges 8:4

My Takeaways

Something Old

Where did Gideon get the fortitude to finish the battle?

  1. Gideon considered God’ past faithfulness when examining his future obstacles. God delivered the Midianites over to Gideon’s army in a big way. This is not something easily forgotten.
  2. Gideon learned people may disappoint, but God will remain true. The rejection of those on the east side of the Jordan made Gideon even more determined to press into God while pressing in on the enemy.
  3. Gideon discovered that victory can be experienced at the end of his weakness. We are strongest when we are weak. (2 Corinthians 12:10)

Something New

The downfall of Gideon… what do I get carried away with?

Spurgeon… “If we go half an inch beyond what God warrants, we always get into mischief.”

Something to Do

Stay right in step with the Holy Spirit.

  1. leaving only 10,000 who were willing to fight. Judges 7:3
Am I willing to fight with the assurance that God is going ahead of me and has promised me victory?

The more I grow closer to God and remember his past faithfulness, my answer is yes!
I am a warrior! We all are warriors in God’s army! We must continue to fight for God is on our side! He goes ahead of us and fights for us!
Blow your rams horns and shout
“For the Lord and for __________!!! (Insert your name there.) Judges 7:18

  2. Oh friends God is speaking! I had to come back and share something with you all that just came to my email. I signed up for a 7 Day Warrior Challenge with Revelation Wellness and today is Day 2. I copied today’s devotion below, it goes just perfectly with today’s reading and lesson! God is so good!

“When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
    Romans 6:20-23

What battle you were born for?

Warriors who don’t know who they are or what they’re fighting for are half-hearted at best. They’re susceptible to the lies and misinformation of the enemy, and they are in danger of being turned, betraying their King and His Kingdom. They fight the wrong battles, and they waste their precious time and energy implementing unproductive or even harmful strategies.

God’s Kingdom warriors fight for freedom.

They fight for God’s love, joy, peace, and hope. They fight for the very lives of those around them. They fight for the freedom that is found only in an intimate, loving relationship with Jesus Christ.

This is the battle you were created for.

The role you play in this battle will look different based on the way that your Heavenly Father uniquely created you. Ask Him what front He wants you to battle on. He’s a good, good King and Father, and His purposes for you are for your freedom and the freedom of those around you.

Make no mistake, this is the mission you have been set on. Jesus Christ fought and won the war that you couldn’t, and He set you free for this mission. Your physical, mental, and spiritual freedom has been bought and paid for so you can joyfully go to battle on behalf of others.

When you get caught up in your own mission, fighting from your own strength or to build your own kingdom, you’re setting yourself up for disaster. You’ll find yourself back in the prison He freed you from.

In contrast, when you receive and rest in the identity and authority your King gives you, and you live to fulfill the mission He has sent you on, the result is more freedom for you and others — the abundant life that Jesus promises you in this life and the life to come (John 10:10).

    Warrior, it’s time to enlist.
Commit yourself to your King and the battle you were born for so that others might hear, be set free, and live!

    TRAINING QUESTIONS:

→ Is there something you feel God is calling you to that you avoid because you feel inadequate or uncomfortable?

→ What is the specific battle that God created you for?

Tell me that wasn’t amazing?!!! ????

  3. I’ve loved reading God and Gideon’s but interactions. God is so patient and understand. He knew Gideon was fearful before the battle and gave him an opportunity to hear what they people were saying. Gideon’s response was to bow and praise God. I am so grateful for God’s kindness and understanding. He is patient and offers reassurances and confirmation of what he calls me to do.

I also noted how quickly The ephod that Gideon made became a stumbling block to him, his family and Israel. I want to constantly evaluate my life for idols. What have I allowed to become an idol. Maybe it started out as a good thing or a neutral thing but has become an idol. Be quick to destroy those things completely.

  4. ~Be careful not to put godly leaders on a pedestal-above God. The death of a godly leader should not cause me to fall away, if my faith remains in God not in the leader.
~It is so important to pass our godly heritage on. If not, it can be lost in a generation. (40 years)
~Be on guard against worshipping “things” rather than God.
