Inside The Church Faith

And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.
Deuteronomy 10:12

My Takeaways

Something Old

God packed today’s verse with four action phrases, good for inside the church and outside the church.

Fear Him.

Live to please Him.

Love Him.

Serve Him.

The same action verbs expected of the Israelites is expected of us today as NT Believers.

He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. (NIV) 2 Timothy 1:9

Fear Him. Live in a way that pleases Him. Love Him. Serve Him…. All equals holiness.

Something New

Something to Do

Take my faith outside the church.

  1. Wendy’s lesson was my takeaway for today when I read. I love how God makes things so simple. He clearly lays out what He requires. He doesn’t make us guess at it. He has given us His Word and the Holy Spirit to guide and help us do what he requires. The reward is rich blessings in him!

  2. Something Old
Deuteronomy 11:20, “Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” I love the thought of being surrounded and protected by the Word of God. The comings and goings involve moving past the solemn and sacred and inspired words of wisdom, guidance and comfort. What better adornment for our homes and hearts? In the past I have hung handwritten scripture verses or professionally framed ones, but another thing I do is write verses out on small scraps of paper and tape them above each doorway in my house. They are not visible, but they are there.

    Something New
Deuteronomy 11:8, “Therefore, be careful to obey every command I am giving you today, so you may have strength to go in and occupy the land you are about to enter.” Clearly this verse indicates a direct correlation between obedience to God and strength in The Lord. Obedience leads to “going in” and “occupying”. Trying a shortcut or an obvious disobedient action, therefore, it likely to result in weakness and failure.

    Something To Do
Deuteronomy 11:26, “Today I am giving you a choice…..” Each moment we have an opportunity to choose Him over_______. Let me choose Jesus…..every time.

  3. Deuteronomy 10:12 reminds me of Micah 6:8, ” He has showed you, O man, what is good! And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

  4. ~God wrote the 10 Commandments on the tablets a second time. Growing up, I always thought Moses wrote them out the second time. What must it have been like to see something physically written by God?
~Fear God. Live in a way that pleases Him. Worship Him. Cling to Him.
Love and serve Him with all my heart and soul.
