Listen, O Wendy!

Listen, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone.
Deuteronomy 6:4

My Takeaways

Something Old

In Hebrew, these verses are known as the Shema (“hear” in Hebrew). It is the classic Hebrew confession of faith, describing who God is, and what our duty is towards Him.

  1. I loved Wendy’s idea of putting scripture on my front door for the delivery men to see! I’m going to do this. I get lots of deliveries!

Two things stood out to me today:

6:25 – “For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us”. So essentially, OT believers could never be considered righteous since there was no way they could obey all the laws (hence the need for all the sacrifices). BUT JESUS! He is my righteousness!

9:1 “Listen O Israel! Today you are about to cross the Jordan River to take over the land”. The day has come! What they’ve all been waiting for. They have arrived (almost)! I wonder how they were feeling! God told them I’m going ahead of you and will fight for you-did they believe it? Were they scared? Were they excited? Nervous? Doubtful? I feel as if I am about to prepare to enter my promised land and I’m feeling all of these things as I enter a new chapter. But I trust God has led me here and will continue to go before me.

    1. Yes Mary. I felt relief that He is my righteousness! Thank heaven. I’m also entering a new chapter and am soo excited, as He leads me. Because He has proven faithful in so many ways in my 61 years I’m refusing to shrink back in lack of faith! Then what would I have gained? He says… Remember what you have learned, so I’m remembering and off I go… Into His new path. Loved these last few lessons, so applicable!

  2. I’m sorry, my comment about obedience was supposed to be posted under yesterday’s lesson. ?

        1. Awesome! I got to thinking “where is that girl?” and then I realized….she is still here!

  3. Wow!! There was so much that jumped out at me from today’s reading that I hardly even know where to begin.
~Love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. (This same command was given by Jesus in the New Testament.)
    ~Don’t test God by complaining.
~God is a faithful and loving God but He does not hesitate to punish and destroy those who reject Him. He is also a great and awesome God.
~The manna was to teach them that people do not live by bread alone; rather we live by every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Jesus used these words when tempted by the devil after fasting for 40 days.
~For the 40 years , their clothes didn’t wear out and their feet didn’t blister and swell.
~Warning to be careful in their plenty not to forget God. And a reminder that God is one who gives them power to be successful.
