The Camp, The Meeting, The Church

As long as the serious disease lasts, they will be ceremonially unclean. They must live in isolation in their place outside the camp.
Leviticus 13:46

My Takeaways

Something Old

What if I was outside the camp, and no one came to me?

Something New

Great commentary on clean and unclean.

They were publicly declared unclean and put outside the camp. What if that happened today?

  • The unclean should be welcomed in the “camp, the meeting, the church.”
  • We should go outside the “camp, the meeting, the church” to find the unclean, that’s what Jesus did.
  • As believers, we need to stay purified, cleansed of sins, to avoid bringing sin into the “camp, the meeting, the church.”

Something to Do

Go outside the camp to connect with people.

  1. ~I agree that there is much “interesting” information in today’s reading and clearly much I don’t really understand. The information in the link Wendy provided was insightful. Thanks, Wendy!
~Something Old: The required times for purification were based on the peson’s ability to pay.
~Something New: In the ceremonial purification from a skin disease, two birds were used. One was killed but the other was released in the open field to fly away.
~Something To Do: Remember that God’s commands found in His Word are for my good. We know today the protection the laws in today’s reading provided to prevent the spread of disease.

  2. I was reading in Hebrews later today and came across these verses that tie Jesus into the teaching today.
    Hebrews 13:11-13
Under the old system, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, and the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp. 12 So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood. 13 So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore.

  3. Genesis 7:2 there were 7 pairs of each clean animal on the ark. In Exodus 25:37 there were 7 stems on the tabernacle lampstand. Proverbs 6:16 there are 7 things the Lord hates; a few examples. There are too many to list here in the comments.

What I found interesting was how many times the number 7 is used throughout scripture and the significance of that number.
The number 7 was utilized many times in scripture, at least seven hundred plus times. We find the #7 is divine completeness and perfection or in this situation in Leviticus wholeness.

  4. I have been experiencing a huge break through for the past 3 days. Earlier today, before I read or watched Wendy’s video, I sang a song of worship to God, afterwards I fell to my knees and cried out to Him like I haven’t in a very long time. I am so sorry Father for my sin, my disobedience, pride, neglect, arrogance. I felt so crushed by it all and am so sorry, regretful and disappointed in myself. I opened to read today’s reading and I had previously highlighted every time it said “Purify or Purification”. It’s beautiful to see all the yellow marks, as if the pages were glowing, it’s repeated ALOT. My word was “Purify” a few years ago so I had highlighted every time I saw it. Then the words
“You are clean!” Jumped right out at me. ESP the ! after it. God has purified me by the blood of Jesus, there is nothing more I need to do but abide in Him. I am washed white as snow, purified and clean. God accepts me and tells me that now I am aware but I should remember it no more, He doesn’t. He doesn’t look at any of it. He showed it to me because I asked, I needed to be made fully aware and I needed to come to full repentance for it. I have been given another chance before it was too late. Everyday is a new day to do exactly what God wants me to do, what I was created to do. I haven’t lost! I’ve been given new life! Although I have been saved for a few years now, today actually is the day I have received my cleansing from Jesus! I couldn’t believe I was hearing Wendy say that, when I had just been crying to God moments before saying I accept what God has for me, who I am and that I am finally ready!!
