When God Is Up To Something Big

When the people saw how long it was taking Moses to come down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron, “Come on,” they said, “make us some gods who can lead us. We don’t know what happened to this fellow Moses, who brought us here from the land Egypt.”
Exodus 32:1

My Takeaways

Something Old

What I am I doing while God is working on something spectacular?

  • Don’t lean on my understanding… that’s foolish.
Those who trust their own insight are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe. Proverbs 28:26
  • Don’t lean on someone else’s understanding… that’s reckless.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. Psalm 118:8-9
  • Lean on God’s understanding…that’s wise.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. (NIV)  Psalm 32:8

Something New

Moses face glowed… if I have been with Jesus, people should know it.

Something to Do

Stay focused on God, and grow in my knowledge. Prepare myself to receive the spectacular.

  1. God is such a great father! Sometimes We are so stubborn and impatient.
Exodus 34:6 The lord passed in front of Moses, calling out,
    “Yahweh! The lord!
The God of compassion and mercy!
    I am slow to anger
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

  2. I loved reading God’s description of Himself in Exodus 34:6-7. He does not change and He is all these things to me today.

I made Exodus 33:13 my prayer “Let me know your ways so I may understand You more fully and continue in your favor.” I love the Lords reply to Moses in verse 14 “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest — everything will be fine for you.” What sweet assurance!

    1. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing! I like reading the comments of others when I have time as others often see something that I overlooked.

  3. ~Moses’s face glowed after he had spent time with the LORD. How will people see/know that I have spent time with God?
~God spoke to Moses face to face, but he as the only one of the people who had that privilege. Because of Jesus, I and all believers can speak to God face to face as one who speaks to a friend.

  4. How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! 32:8

How easily and quickly this could happen to any one of us. If we aren’t careful, a few missed quiet times or days of reading and life or circumstances can pull us away from the Lord and fast. I have learned that I need time everyday with the Lord and in his word to help me stay focused on him consistently.

Be ready in the morning to present yourself to me. 34:2

He is jealous for me. 34:14

  5. So many great insights from today’s reading.
Moses wasn’t selfish. He put the Israelites’ needs before His. He could have allowed God to destroy them when they worshipped the golden calf so that the great nation would come from him but he didn’t. Exodus 32:10

Joshua was with Moses during his encounters with God at Sinai and the Tent off Meeting. Joshua even stayed behind in the tent of meeting after Moses had left. Exodus 32:11, 17

God’s presence with us sets us apart from the world. Exodus 33:15

God wanted the Israelites to prioritize the Sabbath even in busy seasons of life. Exodus 34:21- “ You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but on the seventh day, you must stop working, even during the seasons of plowing and harvest.”

The more time we spend in God’s presence, the more our faces become radiant inwardly and outwardly. Exodus 34:29
