RTW December 21

Because

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
1 Peter 1:3-5

  1. Wendy, thank you for your lesson and thank you for pointing out the reminder in the words from Deuteronomy & Hebrews, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” This particular season has had a lot of challenges for me and these words bring so much comfort. When it seems that the world is “merry & jolly,” but I don’t quite feel like celebrating, these reassuring words really help. They help remind me of God’s unfailing joy and peace that I can relax into. And this joy is much deeper than the superficial merriment of the season. I’ve discovered it is possible to experience joy even in the midst of sadness. He will never fail us or abandoned us! Praise God!!

  2. So much rich stuff in Heb 13 and the beginning of 1Peter.
    – Heb 13:5-6 I can be satisfied no matter my financial sontuation because God is with me and will not leave me. He is my helper and I need never fear.
    – Heb 13:8-9 Jesus never changes. I need to remind myself of this truth and be careful about chasing every new thing for both my spiritual walk and my physical walk.
    – Heb 13:14, 1Peter 1:17 This world is not our home. What a joy and hope this brings! So much of my struggle is tied up in this world and my hope is that this isn’t permanent. My home and inheritance is eternally and secure!
    – 1 Peter 2:1-3 Crave the milk of Gods Word and never turn away from it.

  3. My Takeaways: The Power of Faith

Something Old: I finished Hebrews today and opened Peters first letter. Hebrews closes with faith while 1 Peter starts out writing about faith. “These trials,” he wrote, “are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold; and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold…” (1:7-9).

Something New: It’s not easy to look at trails as good things, but it’s comforting to know that God knows what He is doing and by faith I can be confident in the life he has chosen for me. Knowing what He has already done for me gives me courage to face whatever may come my way. I can press on to the end because of the hope in what is to come. This faith will allow me to serve God with joy and love while I live in this world, because He is coming back, just as He promised before the world began.

Something To Do: Live a selfless life by imitating Jesus Christ. Set my eyes on what is permanent.
