Word Study Wednesday

“Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might.” (v1) (NIV)

“Save me O God by thy name and judge me by thy strength.” (KJV)

I love the humility hidden in David’s words. I especially love the beauty of the KJV!  There is just something about the thous, thys, and thees. Can I get a witness?

Too often my desire to be vindicated and delivered is selfishly more about me than God. David recognizes God renown even in the stronghold hiding for his life. It is all for God’s glory and fame.

name: shem (shame)
renown, fame

strength: geburah (geburah’)
force, mastery, might, mighty act, power, power, strength

Friends, this is the secret to David’s success. He was for God’s renown and fame, not his own. He counted on God’s might rather than his own. What a great lesson! Boy I want to get this one.
