The Prayer that Does Not Anger God

“O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, how long will you be angry with our prayers?”
Psalm  80:4

My Take Aways

Something Old:

Matthew 6:5-13
“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Romans 8:26-27

1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

without ceasing (continually)
properly, nothing left between, i.e. without any unnecessary interval (time-gap).without remission (as of diligence, labor, intensity)

Something New:

79:1
It sometimes seems like God’s special possession, our hearts have been conquered, defiled, and left in a heap.  We can pray for restoration.

Something to Do:

Don’t anger God with my prayers.

May’s Verse
Psalm 19:14
“May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart by pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”
(May 7, page 535)

The Good Ole’ Days

“I think of the good old days, long since ended, when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the difference now.”
Psalm 77:5

My Take Aways

Something Old

“Ponder the difference now”

When I am not experiencing God as I once did I need to ponder my soul and pray, asking God to reveal to me the difference. between then and now. In the wait, “recall all He has done for me.”

Something New

Psalm 78:60-61
God allowed His glory (The Ark of the Covenant) to be captured.

Something to Do

Don’t wallow when things are not going well, change my thinking, and thank praise God for all that He has done for me. As my friend Melanie says, don’t have “stinkin’ thinkin’.”

Bye-Bye Bitterness

“Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside.”
Psalm 73:21

My Take Aways

Something Old:

Ephesians 4:30-32 (NIV)
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Hebrews 12:14-15 (NIV)
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

Psalm 71:20 (NIV)
Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

Something New:

Psalm 74:9
We no longer see your miraculous signs.  How do I respond when I don’t see God’s work in my life?

Something to Do:

Say bye-bye bitterness.  Admit to God and say bye-bye.

May’s Verse
Psalm 19:14
“May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart by pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”

What Does The Lord Want

“Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant?”
Psalm 50:16

My Take Aways

Something Old

Psalm 73: 21
“Then I realized that my heart is bitter and I was torn up inside.”
I realized my heart is bitter when the wicked succeed. Ouch.

Something New

Psalm 50: 17-20

  • Honor all His covenants
  • Obey Him
  • Accept His discipline
  • Respect His authority
  • Stand up against sin and injustice
  • Don’t sin in what I say, have integrity
  • Don’t gossip

Something to Do

Sounds simple, huh? Help us Lord to have meaning behind what we say and do. Let the desires of our heart be pleasing and acceptable to you. Help us to follow your statues no matter what.

On Our Side

“What if the Lord had not been on our side?”
Psalm 124:1

Oh FIGs, I miss seeing you today. I am bugged-eyed with the time change. Smile. I was unable to record today but did have internet access to make a post.
Today’s reading included many psalms/songs called the Psalms of the Ascent. These songs were written to help the Israelites remember what God had done for them. It is believed that they sang these psalms/songs on the ascent to Jerusalem for the festivals. As you read them, 124-134, read them with our past readings in mind. They will truly come alive. Again, these are some of my favorites scriptures in all scripturedom. (I think I made up a word.)

My Take Aways

Something Old

The benefits of being a Believer (Psalm 103)
God:
Forgives all sins
Heals all our diseases
Redeems us from death
Crowns us with love and tender mercies

Something New

Psalm 109
Those wicked, those who were lying about David were those he loved. He even prayed for them. Another great example from King David

Something to Do

Here is a something to do for all of us. I did this on the plane.
In your notebook write down all the things God has seen you through, times you knew and felt Him on your side. This is a great exercise!

This is a video I posted last year. It finds beautifully with the theme of God being on our side and seeing us through the difficulties of like. Enjoy!

The Source of Joy and Gladness

“But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you.”
Psalm 70:4

My Take Aways

Something Old:

David is not saying to find joy and gladness in your circumstances.  He is praying that anyone who searches for God will find joy and gladness in Him.

Seek
ask, beg, beseech, desire, enquire, get, make inquisition

Jeremiah 29:11
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Something New:

101:2b
“I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.”  This is coming from a man who committed adultery and schemed murder in his home.

Something to Do:

Seek Him and I will find my joy and gladness in Him.

May’s Verse
Psalm 19:14
“May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart by pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”
(May 7, page 535)

Teach Me Oh, Lord

“Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart that I might honor you.”
Psalm 86:11

Girls-There is a lot of banter at the beginning of the video.  The teaching starts at around the 6 minute mark.

My Take Aways

Something Old

Do I really want to be taught? If so they why don’t I pause?

Something New

“Your ways”: direction, manner, course of life, moral character
“Teach”; throw, shoot, cast, pour

Something to Do

Do better than I did at yesterday “to do.” Remember to be taught my Him I have to pause/stop/be still.

Lord, let me open my ears, my eyes, my mind, and my mouth so that you might pour Your ways in me.
