TGFABT – Psalm 77

From Plight to Praise

When I was in distress, I sought the Lord, at night. I stretched out my untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted.”
Psalm 77:2

When God seems to have withdrawn from us, we must seek him till we find him
-Matthew Henry

Truth Tuesday

Journal: What truth is God teaching you through Psalm 77?

To leave my hands out long enough to receive the comfort only He can give

Word Study Wednesday

Psalm 77:7-10

“Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”

The psalmist hooked me with verses 7-10. Not because I could not believe he would say such things about God but because he did say such things about God.

I have cried out similar words to the Lord.

  • When my marriage wasn’t working out like the fairy tale I had planned, until God begin to change my heart.
  • When my son struggled with learning, until we uncovered his educational needs.
  • When my husband came close to losing his eye sight in one eye, until we received a diagnosis.
  • When my daughter fought for her faith the hard way, until she drew the line in the stand to say, “I believe.”
  • When ministry opportunities found others but not me, until I bloomed where I was planted.

My point is this, just like me and like you, the psalmist felt God had rejected ( zanach (zaw-nakh’ , [cast him off, pushed or fail) him but through tracing the fingerprints of God’s faithfulness his doubt became certainty, distress became peace, and captivity turned to freedom.

Asaph gave his permission to be real with God about our feelings. One more reason I love the Bible…real people, real problems, real reactions, and a real God!!

Thankful Thursday

Journal: Tell God something that you are thankful for.

I am thankful to be held in the Potter’s hand. It is such a great place to be!

Faith Stretching/Strengthening Friday

Journal: How is God stretching/strengthening your faith?

The Holy Spirit revealed some things to me this week that needed to be confessed to two individuals. It was hard but I did. Confession truly is good for the soul.
